The Japan Research Institute, Limited (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Atsushi Uchikawa; hereinafter 'JRI') will participate in the new 'TUS SciTech Village Concept' (Note 1 / hereinafter 'the Concept') proposed by the Tokyo University of Science (Location: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President: Masatoshi Ishikawa; hereinafter 'TUS').

JRI endorses the philosophy of creating new value and jointly fostering the talent who will shape the future through 'co-creation' between industry and academia, and will contribute to the 'formation of an industry-academia co-creation intellectual cluster' aimed by this Concept through the implementation of joint research and other activities.

■ Background and Purpose
TUS is a university that boasts some of the best educational and research capabilities in Japan, brimming with a spirit that aspires to active roles in industry, and featuring a merit-based education that cultivates the 'ability to open up the future' inherited since its founding. The Concept, formulated for its 150th anniversary, aims to create new value to solve social issues by seamlessly connecting basic research to social implementation, with the university acting as a hub to form an 'industry-academia co-creation intellectual cluster.'

Meanwhile, against the backdrop of digitalization and the rapid evolution of AI technology, the importance of open innovation to utilize scientific and technological advancements for business transformation has increasingly grown in industry in recent years. Particularly in the financial sector, where JRI provides IT solutions, IT plays a major role in improving customer experience value, which is a source of competitiveness. As a result, there is a growing focus on fostering highly specialized talent equipped with cutting-edge technological expertise who can implement it in society.

JRI believes that this advanced Concept by TUS will significantly contribute to the promotion of financial DX and the cultivation of next-generation technology talent, and has decided to begin its participation.

■ JRI's Initiatives
JRI will commence joint research (hereinafter 'the Research') on the theme 'UI/UX in Financial Systems in the Generative AI Era' with Professor Hiroyuki Nishiyama (Department of Information and Computer Science, Faculty of Science and Technology), an expert in distributed artificial intelligence and UI/human behavior analysis. Under the premise of a structure where students proactively participate as researchers, the Research will provide opportunities to engage in studies aimed at societal implementation with a business perspective.

In this Research, Goei Sato (1st-year doctoral student), who himself established and manages the AI startup 'Mugimaru Co., Ltd.,' will be in charge of devising an AI model that generates the optimal screen for each user. Through co-creation with next-generation researchers possessing both deep academic knowledge and practical perspectives gained on the front lines of business, we will strongly promote the resolution of social issues in the financial domain.

Furthermore, the Research also aims for the participating students to present their findings at international conferences. Researchers from JRI's Advanced Technology Lab, who have a track record of presenting at prominent international conferences (Note 2) (Note 3), will participate in the joint research, supporting the challenge toward the future by creating an environment where students can focus on their research with greater peace of mind on the global stage.

JRI will maximally provide the practical expertise cultivated through financial system development for the SMBC Group. By multiplying this with TUS's deep knowledge of science and technology, we will solve social issues in the financial domain and foster/produce advanced technology talent capable of active roles globally, thereby contributing to the 'formation of an industry-academia co-creation intellectual cluster' aimed by the Concept.
