‘Let’s Stand Still and Not Walk’ on Escalators Campaign Launches July 21

Starting Tuesday, July 21, 2026, a campaign promoting safe escalator use will be jointly conducted nationwide with 58 railway operators and 7 organizations, as well as commercial facilities and local governments.

Incidents have occurred where passengers lose their balance and fall while using escalators, or collide with others by rushing up or down. Additionally, the common practice of leaving one side open on escalators can pose safety risks for passengers who can only hold onto one handrail due to physical limitations. To ensure all passengers can use escalators safely and comfortably, we will promote messages such as 'Stand still, don’t walk' and 'Hold the handrail,' as detailed below.

1. Campaign Period: July 21, 2026 (Tuesday) to August 31, 2026 (Monday)
