JR East Smart Logistics Co., Ltd. has been developing and installing the multi-functional locker 'MultiEcube' since October 2023. This locker features four functions in one unit: reservation, storage, pickup, and shipping. The company has been expanding its network across Japan, both inside and outside JR stations, and announced that it surpassed 1,000 units on May 28, 2026.

'MultiEcube' will continue to expand its locations and services, aiming for 2,000 units by fiscal year 2030. Since the service launch in October 2023, 'MultiEcube' has worked on network expansion, achieving 1,000 units on May 28, 2026. A premium membership plan is also available for 500 yen per month, which waives the reservation fee for one month.

By making a reservation on the MultiEcube website and depositing luggage into a compatible locker, users can also use the service to have items delivered to a designated address such as their home or to their hotel on the same day.
