Following the initial opening of 'THE LINKPILLAR 1' on March 27 of last year, today's grand opening adds three new buildings: 'THE LINKPILLAR 2,' 'MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives' (hereinafter 'MoN Takanawa'), and 'TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY RESIDENCE.' Simultaneously, 'OIMACHI TRACKS' in the adjacent Oimachi area also opened, marking the beginning of a new journey for the Greater Shinagawa area.
Ahead of the grand opening, the 'TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY / OIMACHI TRACKS Simultaneous Opening Ceremony' was held at 9:30 AM today inside the cultural creation hub, 'MoN Takanawa.' The ceremony was broadcast live between the two venues. Attendees at the Takanawa Gateway City venue included State Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Moto Sasaki, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, Minato City Mayor Ai Seike, Member of the House of Representatives Tamayo Marukawa, architect Kengo Kuma, Kabuki actors Kikugoro Onoe and Kikunosuke Onoe, and actors Shinichi Tsutsumi and Ami Touma, alongside JR East Chairman Yuji Fukasawa.
The ceremony also featured the latest android, 'Yamatoroid,' as one of the emcees, symbolizing the future of the city and embodying a scene of human-robot coexistence.
The event opened with a performance by the NHK Symphony Orchestra at Takanawa Gateway City, followed by a vibrant performance by the Shiki Theatre Company at OIMACHI TRACKS. A highlight of the event was the 'Tape Transfer'—a performance combining railways and advanced technology where a tape transported from Oimachi Station via the Keihin-Tohoku Line was delivered to the stage by the Takanawa Gateway Station Master and received by the humanoid robot 'Galbot G1,' symbolizing the connection between the two districts.
At the OIMACHI TRACKS venue, JR East President Yoichi Kise stated on behalf of the organizers, 'All of our employees are filled with great joy to have reached this day. We are deeply moved by the progress of this project...'
