NewDays and NewDays KIOSK to Launch New Newtas Rice Balls on May 19, Featuring Hearty Sushi-Style Items and Miyagi Seaweed

NewDays and NewDays KIOSK, operated by JR East Cross Station Retail Company, will launch new rice balls from their original product brand Newtas on Tuesday, May 19. Under the theme “Amazing fillings!”, the lineup includes two sushi-style items from the visually striking and hearty “Sugo Oni” series, plus one station bento-style rice ball inspired by Niigata’s popular ekiben “Ebi Senryo Chirashi.” For a limited time, the hand-rolled rice balls and Newtas Premium rice balls will use “Michinoku Kanryu Nori” seaweed from Miyagi Prefecture. The seaweed is known for its rich ocean aroma, soft texture, crisp bite, and strong compatibility with rice balls. The seasoned seaweed series will also add a new “Korean-style seasoned seaweed” item using Korean seaweed, following the shrimp soy sauce, wasabi-flavored, and standard seasoned seaweed varieties. To celebrate the launch, from May 26 to June 1, customers who buy two rice balls at the same time will receive a receipt coupon redeemable on their next visit for one free bottle of Oi Ocha Green Tea (600ml). Coupons can be redeemed from May 26 to June 8. Rice ball packs, sushi packs, some products, and some stores are excluded. Key new products include: Sugo Oni Seafood Bowl Rice Ball, 420 yen, made with vinegared rice topped with salmon, tuna, flying fish roe, shredded egg, and salmon roe; Sugo Oni Plenty of Salmon Sushi, 390 yen, featuring marinated salmon, salmon belly, and minced salmon with a wasabi accent; and Shibata Sanshinken Ebi Senryo Chirashi-Style Rice Ball, 360 yen, inspired by the long-running Niigata ekiben and made with ginger vinegared rice, eel, gizzard shad, shrimp, squid, and an egg sheet. Recommended items also include an ikura soy sauce rice ball using Honzen soy sauce for 330 yen, a hand-rolled red salmon rice ball for 218 yen, a Korean-style seasoned seaweed beef kalbi rice ball for 215 yen, a shrimp mayo rice ball wrapped in shrimp soy sauce seaweed for 225 yen, a salmon wasabi rice ball wrapped in wasabi-flavored seaweed for 225 yen, and a tamago-kake-gohan-style rice ball with smoked soy sauce for 198 yen.
