Purpose and Background for Obtaining ISO Management System Certification

Severe labor shortages in industries such as construction have become a pressing social issue. To address this challenge, L is B is advancing the development of 'direct Assistant,' a field AI function operating on the business chat platform 'direct.' We aim to contribute to improved productivity and operational efficiency through AI applications optimized for on-site operations.

While AI adoption significantly enhances organizational productivity, it also introduces new business risks, such as incorrect operational decisions due to hallucinations (false responses) and unintended leakage of corporate data. Our goal is to provide an environment where customers can confidently and safely utilize AI. This objective is precisely why we decided to pursue certification under the international standard for AI management systems, 'ISO/IEC 42001.'

Since obtaining certification for the Information Security Management System (ISMS: ISO/IEC 27001 and 27017) in 2016, we have continuously strengthened our robust security framework. Building upon this solid ISMS foundation, we have established a governance structure to appropriately manage AI-specific risks.

Moving forward, we will continue striving to deliver safe and reliable AI services by realizing 'Responsible AI.'

Key Considerations During Implementation

We leveraged our existing ISMS (ISO/IEC 27001 and 27017) as a foundation and integrated AI-specific requirements—such as fairness, transparency, and safety—to build a streamlined system that avoids dual management burdens and facilitates easy adoption across operational teams.

Additionally, we created an 'AI Management System Rulebook' that translates complex ISO standards into intuitive, easy-to-understand language for frontline staff. This rulebook defines clear rules and procedures tailored to specific processes, such as 'What to do before using or developing AI' and 'What to uphold during AI use and development.'

We will leverage the insights gained through this audit to continue providing AI services that customers can use with confidence.
