NEC has launched a free trial for its 'AI HS Code Classification Support' service, which uses generative AI to assist in identifying the necessary HS codes for import and export cargo, starting May 14. Through this trial, companies can verify the highly specialized and often person-dependent task of HS code classification in a real-world setting and confirm the benefits of adoption in advance. The service allows users to input cargo descriptions and usage details, which the generative AI then analyzes to provide HS code candidates and supporting evidence. If information is insufficient, the AI prompts the user for additional details such as material or processing status, replicating the actual customs clearance process. This contributes to standardized quality and efficiency by reducing reliance on years of experience, visualizing the basis for classification, and lowering training costs.
