NEC Launches DNS Security Features for UNIVERGE IX-R Series VPN Routers in Collaboration with Soliton Systems
NEC has begun offering DNS security and RADIUS authentication features for its VPN routers, integrated with Soliton Systems' security solutions.
NEC has announced the launch of sales for usage licenses for DNS security features (Note 2) linked with Soliton Systems' "Soliton DNS Guard" (Note 1) for its enterprise VPN router, the "UNIVERGE IX-R Series." This functionality is realized through connection with the cloud-based integrated management service "NetMeister" (Note 3). Additionally, a RADIUS authentication feature (Note 4) combining the IX-R series with "NetMeister Prime" has been released simultaneously.
Background
In recent years, as digitalization accelerates, the burden of maintaining and managing IT infrastructure has increased. Simultaneously, there is a shortage of highly skilled network engineers, leading to growing challenges for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in implementing security measures and managing related equipment. Furthermore, the rise in remote meetings and cloud adoption has increased network traffic, creating a demand for lightweight security solutions that do not strain network lines.
Features of the Service
DNS Security Feature
This feature detects and blocks access to threats and inappropriate websites at the DNS layer, which is the initial stage of the communication process. This reduces the load on devices, allowing for enhanced security while maintaining router performance and minimizing the impact on network lines. Furthermore, because this feature allows for report output and security log verification via a web browser through the "NetMeister" cloud-based integrated management service, the effectiveness is visualized. Additionally, policy settings such as access control can be managed collectively from the NetMeister management screen, reducing the man-hours required for setup and operation without needing advanced skills. These features provide SMEs with an easy-to-implement and effective network security environment.
RADIUS Authentication Feature
By using the UNIVERGE IX-R series as the authentication server and the UNIVERGE QX series as the authentication client, an IEEE 802.1X authentication environment is realized. Since authentication information is stored in the cloud, it is easy to build authentication systems that span multiple locations, and one-stop support is available up to the issuance of CA certificates (Note 5). Furthermore, by eliminating the need for individual management with network equipment management systems, operational man-hours and human burden can be reduced.
Sales Information
RADIUS Authentication Feature: Available through existing NetMeister Prime licenses.
Sales Target: Aiming for 4 billion yen in sales over the next five years.
*This license must be purchased for each device used.
Through these services, NEC supports the development of secure network environments for enterprises and contributes to reducing the risks of cyberattacks and information leaks. Additionally, by reducing operational burdens, NEC contributes to addressing the social issue of IT talent shortages.
Regarding DX, NEC provides end-to-end services, including strategic concept consulting and implementation, across three axes: business models, technology, and organization/talent. Furthermore, aiming to evolve from a traditional SIer to a "Value Driver," NEC has organized its value creation model as "BluStellar" (Note 6). By leveraging advanced cross-industry insights and cutting-edge technology, NEC transforms business models and solves both social and customer management challenges.
