NEC will begin sales of the 'iStorage V Series SDS Cloud Volume Service' on March 31, 2026. This service enables cloud migration, data utilization, and disaster recovery for the 'iStorage V Series' enterprise and government storage products through data integration with AWS.

In recent years, with the expansion of cloud utilization, there is a growing demand for gradually migrating data to the cloud while maintaining on-premises data, as well as a need to flexibly build development and verification environments in the cloud. On the other hand, migrating systems to the cloud can sometimes lead to increased costs, making cost-efficiency optimization a key challenge.

The 'iStorage V Series SDS Cloud Volume Service' is a managed service that connects the iStorage V Series with SDS (Software-Defined Storage) provided on AWS, enabling data integration between on-premises and the cloud. Customers can flexibly operate a hybrid cloud environment by extending their data usage areas to the cloud while leveraging their existing on-premises environment.

Key features of the new service include:

1. Supporting cloud utilization with SDS based on proven storage technology
This service provides volumes (data storage areas) offered by SDS on AWS that can be connected to the customer's iStorage V Series. Since the SDS volumes can be accessed from virtual servers on AWS, it becomes easier to prepare cloud-based environments starting from on-premises data. This allows customers to start cloud usage from the necessary areas based on system priority. Additionally, the SDS on AWS utilizes proven on-premises storage technology, allowing for cost reduction through compression and thin-provisioning functions.

2. Supporting hybrid cloud adoption and operation through on-premises/cloud data integration
By utilizing this service, customers can realize cloud migration, data utilization, and disaster recovery.

  • Cloud Migration: Facilitates step-by-step system modernization and distributes migration loads, allowing for flexible operational design that considers future options like returning to on-premises.
  • Data Utilization: Accelerates analysis, development, and verification tasks by creating an environment where on-premises data can be handled in the cloud.
  • Disaster Recovery: Reduces maintenance costs for disaster recovery sites by enabling the construction of a disaster recovery environment in the cloud.

The service is offered on a monthly subscription basis, with pricing provided via individual quotes based on customer requirements.

Additionally, NEC is launching the 'Ransomware Countermeasure and Recovery Support Service' for the iStorage V Series. With the recent surge in ransomware attacks, there is a need for advanced backup operations to ensure rapid and reliable recovery. This service provides everything from building ransomware countermeasures using the 'Secure Snap' function (launched in February 2025) to conducting pre-emptive recovery drills and providing support for recovery operations in the event of an incident.
