[Lecture Overview]
In recent years, the problem of "drug loss," where medicines approved in Europe and the United States are not developed in Japan, has become apparent, pointing out the risk that innovative medicines may not be provided in Japan.
In response to this, the public and private sectors in Japan are working together to advance discussions aimed at (1) strengthening Japan's drug discovery capabilities, (2) rapidly delivering the latest medicines to the public, and (3) building a social system where the cycle of investment and innovation is sustained.
In this lecture, we will provide an overview of the government's efforts to build a drug discovery ecosystem in Japan, as well as detail the current status of clinical trials conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and various measures to promote them.
