What is the Japan Package Design Awards?
It is a competition hosted by the Japan Package Design Association (JPDA), an incorporated public interest association, which widely calls for works (products) through public recruitment and selects them.
Professionals in the design field of packaging gather to compete on the design quality and creativity of their works.
Held biennially since 1985, it aims to improve the social status of package design and has built a place to applaud excellent work.
A major characteristic is that it evaluates works through the eyes of package designers, placing importance not only on packaging considering production, distribution, and the environment but also on design value and the perspective of product creation. After a rigorous screening process by member judges and external special judges from among approximately 1,000 or more entries each time, the Grand Prize, Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Special Judge Awards are selected.
Winning and selected works are included in publications, and winning works are exhibited in a traveling exhibition (planned for Tokyo and other locations). In addition, the Grand Prize and Gold Prize works are physically stored in the association's archives.
