This year, as Japan celebrates its 70th anniversary of UN membership, it is an opportune moment to look back at the history of cooperation between the UN and Japan, and to connect its achievements and lessons learned to the future of multilateral cooperation. A symbolic example of this is the UN Pavilion at EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, themed "Humanity is Strongest When United." With strong support from the Japanese government, the UN participated on an unprecedented scale in the history of expos, involving 35 UN agencies and 15 departments of the UN Secretariat. Over 400,000 visitors attended, and many dignitaries, including Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress, were welcomed.

The symposium aims to build upon the successful example of EXPO 2025, a long-standing partnership between the UN and Japan, and to send a strong message from Japan to the world for strengthening multilateralism and international cooperation. At the same time, it provides an opportunity to connect these lessons to Japan's next major international event, the GREENxEXPO 2027 (International Horticultural Expo) to be held in Yokohama in 2027.

Multiple UN and Japanese government officials, as well as Japanese youth leaders, will speak at this symposium.

This event will be held in English, with simultaneous interpretation into Japanese available.
