Polène Opens First Kansai Store at Hankyu Umeda Main Store 1F Bag Gallery

The maison Polène opened its doors at the Hankyu Umeda Main Store 1F Bag Gallery on Wednesday, May 27th. This first Kansai store features a collection born from the dialogue between designers at the Parisian studio and artisans at the workshop in Ubrique, Spain.

Founded in Paris in 2016, Polène is a leather goods brand. The bags, each handcrafted by artisans in Ubrique, Spain, are characterized by their unique forms that highlight true craftsmanship. Inspired by detailed observations of nature, the designs are based on organic forms created through ingenious manufacturing techniques such as shaping leather with wooden molds, hand-stitched drapes, braiding, and complex 'origami' patterns.

The Hankyu Umeda store, the first in the Kansai region, features a display inspired by custom toolboxes, embodying the craftsmanship of leather goods production and symbolizing the maison's philosophy. Within a space reminiscent of a leather atelier, centered around a large wooden toolbox, visitors can experience the maison's 'savoir-faire.' Cases made of compressed leather and multiple drawers condense the attention to detail and materials used in leather goods production, inviting visitors into the world of the maison's craftsmanship. A curated selection of items from the collection is available in-store.

Following the opening at Hankyu Umeda Main Store, Polène plans to open a second store in Osaka in 2027.

'Numéro Neuf' features a natural design. It weaves a beautiful harmony between suppleness and stability of form. Hand-stitching, which shines with the skill of leather artisans, adds a soft expression to the draped leather.

Numéro Dix (W24×H20×D7.5cm) 104,000 JPY
'Numéro Dix' was born from the inspiration of traditional horse-riding gear. With a foam pad inside, the hand-stitching adds a subtle accent to the plump, soft form. The half-moon silhouette created by overlapping curves highlights the elegant formal beauty.

Mokki (W32.5×H24.5×D11cm) 117,000 JPY
'Mokki' features a form tailored as if folding grain leather. The contrast with smooth leather, logo-engraved fasteners, partitioned storage space, and adjustable straps add functional beauty. The name means 'cabin' in Finnish, and is inspired by tranquility.
