17LIVE Inc. (Tokyo, Shibuya; CEO: Jun Honghui; URL: https://jp.17.live/), which operates one of Japan's largest live streaming apps, '17LIVE,' is pleased to announce the results of its 'Survey on Communication Realities in New Life 2026,' conducted among users of the app.
<Survey Results Summary> - Over 60% of users who identified as company employees reported feeling anxious about text-based communication. More than 80% stated that live streaming-style communication, where faces and voices can be seen and heard, makes it easier to grasp the true intentions of others!
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, text-based communication such as chat and email has become widespread in society. However, over 60% of respondents reported feeling anxious because they cannot discern the tone of the other party. Furthermore, over 80% believe that real-time interactions, where one can see and hear the other person's face and voice—as in live streaming—facilitate smoother communication. These results indicate that while text-based communication is efficient, many people feel that real-time interaction is essential for understanding true intentions and ensuring smooth communication.
- Over 40% of users who identified as company employees reported having 'sleepless nights' during the new life season. Regarding smartphone usage during these nights, 'watching live streams' (30.1%) surpassed 'watching video streaming services (movies/dramas)' (27.0%)!
In today's high-stress 'new life' season, over 40% (44.2%) of respondents reported having 'sleepless nights' due to anxiety or loneliness caused by environmental changes. Additionally, when asked about their smartphone habits during these nights, 'watching live streams' ranked first (30.1%), surpassing the use of video streaming services for movies or dramas (27.0%). This suggests that watching live streams is becoming a common way to alleviate feelings of loneliness at night during the new life season.
- Over 90% of users who identified as company employees stated they need a place or time where they can be their 'unadorned selves'!
It was found that many company employees in today's high-stress society feel the need for time where they can be themselves in real-time, without the editing or filters found in other media, such as in live streaming.
