Japan NPO Center Announces First Grantees for "Great East Japan Earthquake Local NPO Support Fund" (General Grant, 5th Phase) and Holds Kickoff Meeting

The Certified Specified Non-profit Organization Japan NPO Center (Location: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Makoto Oshima) has completed the selection process for the first round of grants under the "Great East Japan Earthquake Local NPO Support Fund" (General Grant, 5th Phase), adopting 7 organizations (total grant amount: 6.75 million yen). From this 5th phase, in addition to collaboration among NPOs, this grant aims to support "network building" as a foundation for diverse organizations to work together to solve social issues, and to support initiatives aimed at improving sustainable problem-solving capabilities in local communities. This is the first round of this new approach.

The first grantees for the Great East Japan Earthquake Local NPO Support Fund (General Grant, 5th Phase) are as follows:

1. Specified Non-profit Organization Mirai Toshokan (Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture) 1 million yen

2. General Incorporated Association Tonarino (Rikuzentakata City, Iwate Prefecture) 1 million yen

3. General Incorporated Association Free Space Tsunagi (Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture) 1 million yen

4. Specified Non-profit Organization Yappesu (Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture) 750,000 yen

5. Specified Non-profit Organization Nijiiro Crayon (Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture) 1 million yen

6. General Incorporated Association Hoppo Area Development Council (Marumori Town, Miyagi Prefecture) 1 million yen

7. Specified Non-profit Organization Fuyodo 2100 (Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture) 1 million yen

* Grant Period: One year, from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027

* Number of Grantees: 7 organizations

* Total Grant Amount: 6.75 million yen

* The first round of the 5th phase grant was implemented for organizations that had been supported by one of the Great East Japan Earthquake support programs conducted by the Japan NPO Center. Applications received between February 2, 2026, and February 9, 2026, were reviewed, and the grants were decided.

■ Kickoff Meeting

A kickoff meeting was held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the Sendai City Community Activities Support Center. The 7 selected organizations attended, sharing details of their initiatives under this grant and exchanging opinions. Further details can be found here:

Local NPOs, which have accumulated various expertise by working closely with citizens in the affected areas since the initial stages of the Great East Japan Earthquake, are already indispensable to the region, and expectations for them are high. Through this grant, we will support local NPOs in strengthening their organizational foundations and continuing to be involved in the recovery of the affected areas.
