JGC Holdings Corporation announced that the FJ3 project (Building 54 and auxiliary facilities at the Fujieda Plant of Chugai Pharmaceutical Industrial), designed and built by JGC Corporation, received the 'Honorable Mention' at the 2026 Facility of the Year Awards (FOYA) organized by the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE). The announcement was made during the 2026 ISPE Europe Annual Conference on April 20, 2026.

FOYA is an international competition selecting pharmaceutical facilities with outstanding technical standards. The Chugai/JGC FJ3 project was chosen as a finalist among 19 candidates and subsequently awarded the 'Honorable Mention' after a rigorous review process. This follows the 2023 Innovation Category win for Chugai's FJ2 project at FOYA.

The FJ3 project involved the design and construction of a low- and mid-molecule synthetic drug substance manufacturing building at the Fujieda Plant. It was completed in just 36 months, including commissioning and qualification, and finished in November 2024. Building 54 is one of the world's largest facilities equipped with 'Dual Manufacturing Capability,' producing both mid-molecule drug substances like cyclic peptides and small-molecule synthetic substances within the same equipment, based on Chugai's proprietary Classical Solution-Phase Peptide Synthesis (CSPS) method.

JGC utilized its unique technologies to build a facility capable of handling a wide range of substances, including highly potent and hazardous materials. Specifically, JGC designed modular process configurations with independent production lines and comprehensive automation. It also introduced CONPAStainment®, its proprietary next-generation containment technology, as an optimized isolator for various equipment interfaces. This ensured worker safety from exposure to various compounds with high pharmacological activity, achieving an Occupational Exposure Limit (OEL) of ≤0.03μg/m³, surpassing the level of the previous FJ2 project.

The project was evaluated based on five key characteristics:
1. Manufacturing equipment supporting a wide range of substances and volumes using CSPS technology.
2. World-class containment technology CONPAStainment® (OEL ≤0.03μg/m³).
3. Engineering achieving modular process configurations and comprehensive automation/digitalization.
4. Safety-first design including seismic isolation and 'Sustainability by Design.'
5. Implementation of High Performance Project™ for project execution.

JGC has led pharmaceutical and life science engineering for nearly half a century. With over 700 projects and 400 specialized engineers, JGC continues to provide optimal solutions for rapid technological progress in the field.
