JGC Holdings starts operating data quality management framework with an eye on AI utilization

JGC Holdings Corporation (Representative Director, Chairman & CEO: Masayuki Sato) announces that JGC Global Corporation (Representative Director, President & Executive Officer: Shoji Yamada, hereinafter "JGC Global"), its overseas EPC business company, has started operating a data quality management framework for data related to plant design, procurement, and construction (EPC) services from April this year, with an eye on AI utilization. Through the operation of this framework, JGC Global aims to improve the data quality of EPC services, streamline operations, and realize data-driven decision-making.

This framework was jointly developed with Hitachi, Ltd. (hereinafter "Hitachi") with the aim of continuously improving data quality. By adopting a hybrid approach of "PDCA*1 x OODA*2," it combines the PDCA cycle, which allows for long-term review and improvement, with OODA, which enables rapid situation assessment and response. This achieves both the advancement of the overall data quality management process and quality improvement in daily operations.

JGC Global is currently promoting data-driven decision-making in EPC projects by centrally managing data related to EPC services on its proprietary platform "DATABOX." While such data is generally managed in separate databases for each field, the Company has built and operated "DATABOX" as a platform to integrate them across the board. This has promoted data integration across EPC projects, but in large-scale and complex projects, the importance of a system to manage data quality more systematically has increased to utilize such a platform more effectively.

By utilizing this framework, it becomes possible to ensure data completeness, timeliness, and validity, and to share important situations in EPC projects, such as design, material procurement, and construction, across departments. This enables decision-makers, including executives, to make judgments based on the same information, leading to the advancement of project management.

Since the effective utilization of AI largely depends on input data, maintaining high-quality data is required. Since 2023, JGC Global has been jointly working with Hitachi to build a data quality management framework based on international data management standard frameworks such as DMBOK*3 and ISO8000*4, by extracting current data quality issues, clarifying desired quality, and designing data quality improvement processes.
