JFE Engineering Corporation
JFE Engineering Corporation (President: Kazumi Fukuda, Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has won three awards in the Engineering Merit Award category at the 2026 "Engineering Merit and Encouragement Special Awards," as announced by the Engineering Advancement Association, a general incorporated foundation. This is the highest number of awards received in the Engineering Merit Award category this year.
The award-winning projects are the Tema Elevated Bridge Project Team in Ghana and the Bac Ninh Province Waste-to-Energy Project Team in Vietnam, both recognized in the "International Contribution" category for their engineering activities overseas. The CO2 Liquefaction, Storage, and Handling Facility Construction Project Team was awarded in the "Engineering Promotion" category for advancing technological capabilities within the engineering industry and开拓ing new fields. A total of 15 projects were awarded in the 2026 Engineering Merit Award category, including 4 for International Contribution, 7 for Engineering Promotion, 3 for Environmental Contribution, and 1 under the Small and Medium-Scale category.
1. Tema Elevated Bridge Project in Ghana [※1]
This project was recognized for contributing to alleviating traffic congestion and improving logistics efficiency at the Tema Interchange, a key logistics and transportation hub in West Africa, by providing high-quality infrastructure utilizing Japanese technology. The project encompassed the full scope of works, including steel bridge fabrication and erection, pier foundation construction, roadworks, paving, traffic signals, and lighting. By integrating JFE Group technologies, the project achieved reduced maintenance costs, extended bridge lifespan, and minimized environmental impact.

2. Bac Ninh Province Waste-to-Energy Project in Vietnam [※2]
This project is Vietnam’s first waste-to-energy project supported under the Japanese government’s bilateral credit mechanism. In partnership with a local entity, JFE Engineering advanced the project holistically—from planning through construction and operation—incinerating 500 tons of waste per day and generating 11.6 MW of electricity, amounting to 91,872 MWh annually. As Vietnam’s first co-combustion waste-to-energy project, it simultaneously addresses environmental and power supply challenges and aims to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 627,000 tons over a 15-year period through continuous GHG reduction obligations. The project successfully combines proper waste management with renewable energy supply, serving as a symbol of Japan-Vietnam environmental cooperation and contributing internationally to a sustainable, resource-circulating society.

3. CO2 Liquefaction, Storage, and Handling Facility Construction Project [※3]
This project involved the construction of part of the equipment used in a demonstration test for CO2 transportation within a large-scale CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) demonstration project commissioned by Japan CCS Co., Ltd. It serves as a foundational infrastructure for liquefying, storing, and loading CO2 onto ships. The project was recognized for its high technical capability in establishing a liquefied CO2 transportation system capable of long-distance, large-volume transport—essential for the practical implementation of CCUS. JFE Engineering was responsible for the entire process, from design and construction to commissioning, of a land-based facility capable of liquefying, storing, and shipping approximately 10,000 tons of CO2 annually. The project has accumulated valuable technical expertise and achievements that will support the future development of CCUS value chains.
