JFE Engineering Corporation

JFE Engineering Corporation (President: Kazumi Fukuda, Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has received an order for the construction of a 100,000 kW-class large gas engine power generation facility (hereinafter "the Facility") to be newly established by Toho Gas Co., Ltd. (President: Satoshi Yamazaki, Headquarters: Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture; hereinafter "Toho Gas"), which will be the first of its kind in the Chubu region. In addition to construction, the company is scheduled to undertake comprehensive operation and maintenance services for a period of 20 years.

The Facility is being constructed with the aim of adjusting power supply and demand, where power generation volume fluctuates depending on the time of day, weather, and season, as the penetration of renewable energy advances. Toho Gas made a successful bid in the Long-term Decarbonization Power Source Auction [*1] in April 2025. The construction site will be within the premises of JFE Steel Corporation's Chita Works (Handa City, Aichi Prefecture), with construction starting in April 2027 and aiming for the start of operations by fiscal year 2030.

Our company has an extensive track record in the construction of power generation facilities such as gas engines and LNG-related facilities. Our overall coordination capabilities, along with the technological prowess and know-how we have cultivated over the years, were highly evaluated, leading to this order.

Moving forward, our company will continue to contribute to the stable supply of energy and the progress of the energy transition toward the early realization of a carbon-neutral society.

*1 A system overseen by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. It encourages the new construction of power plants (power sources) while switching from power sources using fossil fuels to those utilizing hydrogen, ammonia, and renewable energy to achieve carbon neutrality. The system aims to realize carbon neutrality and stable power supply by 2050.
