[YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA] Yuki Nishimoto Solo Exhibition Tracing His Trajectory, Including 10 Years of Hakata Gion Yamakasa Artwork

YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA (2-1-4 Daimyo, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Stage 1 Nishidori 4F) will host a solo exhibition by Yuki Nishimoto starting Saturday, June 13, 2026.

This exhibition will feature giclée print works in addition to his Hakata Gion Yamakasa artworks, which he has been creating since 2016. A video introducing the artist will also be screened at the venue, offering an overview of his activities as a sumi-e and toubokuga artist to date.

Yuki Nishimoto expresses a dynamism and atmosphere in his sumi-e that was previously unattainable, depicting subjects from classical themes to contemporary athletes. His activities extend beyond the art scene to sports, music, and gaming.

Last September, the "Toyokawa Inari Yuki Nishimoto Museum" opened on the grounds of Toyokawa Inari (Enpuku-zan Myogon-ji), one of Japan's three major Inari shrines. The establishment of the world's largest sumi-e museum, bearing his name within a leading Japanese temple, was met with astonishment.

This exhibition will primarily showcase works with dragon and animal motifs, introducing the evolution and deepening of Yuki Nishimoto's expression through giclée prints that meticulously reproduce his brushwork, ink shades, and evenかすれ (kasuri/faded effects) and飛沫 (shibuki/splatters). Furthermore, as he reaches the 10-year milestone of his involvement with Hakata Gion Yamakasa, he will reflect on his work for the decorative Yamakasa floats. His artworks, which do not merely trace historical subjects but capture the stories and passion of Yamakasa with his unique sensibility, are a must-see.

**Artist Profile**

Yuki Nishimoto
Born in 1988 in Kagoshima Prefecture. Affiliated with Geniet LLC. His works have been published in junior high school art textbooks since 2021. In 2025, the Yuki Nishimoto Museum opened at Toyokawa Inari in Aichi Prefecture.

**Biography**

2012: Received the World's Best Work Award from over 5,300 entries from 63 countries worldwide at the art contest "EMBRACING OUR DIFFERENCES," themed on diversity and inclusion.

2014: Appointed as sumi-e artist for the game "Sengoku BASARA 4." Was the only Japanese person invited to the "OMEGA presents Ambassador Ball 2014" in Hong Kong, where he performed live painting.

2015: Performed live painting in the presence of His Imperial Highness Prince Fumihito at the "Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize" award ceremony.

2016: Participated in the opening ceremony of the Houke Botan Festival by invitation from the Shanghai government. Performed for the first time as a Japanese person at the ceremony.

2018: Created the mural "Seven True Dragons" (3x8m) at Fukuoka Airport Domestic Terminal Building.

2019: Designed Pokémon "Rayquaza" in sumi-e style. Visuals displayed at Shibuya Station and SHIBUYA109.

Received three awards (two silver, one bronze) at the "2019 Clio Entertainment" advertising awards.

2021: His work was adopted for the cover of the Reiwa 3rd year "Defense White Paper."

His work was published in the official program of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

His work was used as the background imagery for Sayuri Ishikawa's "Tsugaru Kaikyō Fuyu Geshiki" at the 72nd NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen.

His work was adopted for the Toho and Universal Music collaboration project "Godzilla Record Project."

2022: His work was featured on TV Asahi's "Tamori Station ~ The Trajectory of Shohei Ohtani, the Two-Way Player."

2023: Responsible for character design for the globally popular card game "Magic: The Gathering."

Performed live painting at an event for Italian luxury sports car manufacturer Ferrari.

Performed live painting at Art Basel Hong Kong. His work was successfully bid on at a Christie's auction in Hong Kong.

2025: The Yuki Nishimoto Museum opened at Toyokawa Inari (Enpuku-zan Myogon-ji) in Aichi Prefecture.
