Significant Improvement in Learning and Behavior: Visual Cognitive Training App Adopted by Public Schools Following Verification Results

Je respire Inc.'s visual cognitive training app "Diabiai" demonstrated significant improvements in visual cognitive scores, academic performance, and behavioral indicators during a 6-month verification in public schools. Positive changes were reported in approximately 80% of students, leading to its official adoption in public schools in Okinawa Prefecture.

Je respire Inc. conducted a 6-month effectiveness verification of its visual and cognitive function-based training app, "Diabiai," in public schools.

This study aimed to visualize the process from information reception, processing, judgment, to action, and to verify its relationship with changes in academic ability and behavior, rather than just focusing on "can/cannot" outcomes.

As a result, in addition to a significant improvement in visual cognitive scores, statistically significant improvements were confirmed in academic-related items and behavioral indicators such as interpersonal relationships and self-regulation. Furthermore, observational evaluations by homeroom teachers reported positive changes in approximately 80% of students. Based on these verification results, official adoption has been decided in public schools in Okinawa Prefecture.

■【Social Background】

Traditional education and guidance have often used outcomes like "can/cannot" or personality traits as indicators. However, the underlying differences in how information is received and processed have not been sufficiently visualized.

Je respire Inc. has defined these differences in the process from information reception, processing, judgment, to action as "Dominant Cognition®." This framework is organized into the following four foundational functions (base skills) and has been presented at the International Ergonomics Association (AHFE).

・Reading Comprehension Base (eye movement, visual language information understanding)

・Memory Base (instantaneous visual processing, working memory)

・Cognition Base (spatial cognition, mental rotation)

・Concentration/Attention Base (attention distribution, breadth of visual field)

■【Confirmation of Changes in Learning, Behavior, and Cognition through 3 Evaluation Axes】

Overview of the 6-month verification in public schools

1. Significant Improvement in Visual Cognitive Scores

 15.76 → 22.76 (+7.00 points) t = 6.07, p = 0.000016, effect size d = 1.47 (very large effect)

→ Confirmed significant improvement in visual cognitive scores, which are fundamental to learning.

2. Improvement in Academic-Related Tasks (significant difference in 6 tasks)

Significant difference in academic-related tasks (p-value)

Confirmed significant improvement in academic-related task scores

(Related to all four base skills)

3. Improvement in Learning Behavior and Interpersonal Behavior

Changes in learning behavior and interpersonal behavior scales (effect size)

Significant improvements in learning behavior and interpersonal behavior confirmed by teacher evaluation:

Concentration during class, situation-appropriate behavior, collaboration with others, impulse control, etc.

4. Observational Evaluation by Homeroom Teachers (free description)

Behavioral changes confirmed in 16 out of 20 subjects (80%).

 Teacher comments (examples):

"Able to concentrate on difficult tasks for extended periods."

"Became able to interact actively with anyone at an appropriate distance."

"Developed a willingness to try anything first and was able to take on challenges."

■【Theoretical Background and Validity】

"Dominant Cognition®" is a framework that captures individual differences in information processing based on the relationship between visual information processing and cognitive function.

It is known that "Neural Efficiency," which processes information efficiently with fewer brain resources, is involved in high performance, and this framework is consistent with that perspective.

Dominant Cognition® aims to visualize individual strengths in information processing patterns and support the individual optimization of "efforts that lead to results" rather than relying on sheer willpower.

The validity of this framework has been verified through joint research with Saitama University, using physiological indicators (near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), eye-tracking, pupil diameter, autonomic nervous system indicators), in addition to its implementation in educational settings and consistency with behavioral and learning indicators. Some of these results have been presented at academic conferences and published (https://x.gd/hc9sq).

■【Future Developments】

Starting with the adoption in Okinawa Prefecture, we will expand the target (age, environment), verify long-term effects, and apply it to educational and corporate settings, while continuing to verify reproducibility and implementability.

We will also exhibit at EDIX (Education General Exhibition) to be held at Tokyo Big Sight (East Halls 1, 2, 3, and 8) from May 13th to 15th (Booth number: ST-5).
