The Future JCCL Envisions

JCCL's dream is to create a social infrastructure that captures CO2 at the moment of emission, rather than relying solely on "reducing" emissions.

This society will enable sustainable development:

・ Home water heaters, air conditioners, shops, schools, offices, vehicles… Capturing CO2 on-site from every emission source in daily life.

・ Recycling captured CO2 for use in dry ice, agriculture, energy, and more.

・ A world that utilizes CO2 as a "circulating resource" rather than "waste."

What We Have Already Achieved Toward This Dream

● World's first success in capturing CO2 from a residential water heater

In collaboration with Fukuoka City, JCCL became the first in the world to successfully capture CO2 from a residential gas water heater at a concentration of over 99%. This is a groundbreaking achievement that proves direct CO2 capture is possible from small emission sources in everyday life.

● Commercialization of CO2 capture equipment

By combining a proprietary absorbent with vacuum steam, we have commercialized an energy-saving CO2 capture device capable of capturing approximately 2kg of CO2 per day at a concentration of over 97% from gas containing about 7% CO2, equivalent to exhaust gas from city gas combustion.

● Practical application of CO2 separation membrane evaluation equipment

Using a unique automatic pressure and humidity control system, the device can set the relative humidity on the permeate side and the sweep steam supply volume as desired to separate CO2. It has been confirmed to operate stably for over a month, concentrating CO2 to over 97% from gas containing 13% CO2.

Why This Dream Is Necessary

Until now, there were no CO2 capture devices for small-scale emission sources such as homes, shops, and schools. However, JCCL's technology has paved the way for capturing CO2 with significantly lower energy consumption than ever before by using 50–60°C low-temperature vacuum steam. Measures for these "distributed emission sources" are essential for achieving a sustainable carbon-neutral society.

The Next Challenge

JCCL will accelerate social implementation in the following areas:

・ Widespread adoption in homes through further miniaturization and cost reduction.

・ Development of capture technology for mobile sources such as vehicles and ships.
