We endorse 'April Dream', a project aiming to make April 1st a day to share dreams. This press release outlines the dream of JCCL Co., Ltd.

JCCL Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture; https://jccl.jp/), a technology startup spun out of Kyushu University, is advancing the social implementation of low-cost, high-efficiency CO2 separation and capture technology.

■ The Future JCCL Envisions
JCCL's dream is not to rely solely on "reducing" CO2 emissions, but to build a social infrastructure that captures CO2 at the exact moment of emission.

This society enables sustainable development:
- From every daily emission source: Home water heaters, air conditioners, stores, schools, offices, vehicles... capturing CO2 on the spot.
- Recycling the captured CO2 into resources like dry ice, agricultural use, and energy.
- A world where CO2 is utilized as a "circular resource" rather than "waste."

■ What We Have Already Achieved Toward This Dream
- World's First Successful CO2 Capture from a Home Water Heater
In collaboration with Fukuoka City, JCCL succeeded in capturing CO2 at a concentration of over 99% from a household gas water heater—a world first. This is a groundbreaking achievement proving that direct CO2 capture is possible from small emission sources in daily life.

- Commercialization of CO2 Capture Devices
By combining a proprietary absorbent with low-pressure steam, we have commercialized an energy-saving CO2 capture device capable of capturing approximately 2kg of CO2 per day at a concentration of over 97% from gas containing about 7% CO2, equivalent to post-combustion exhaust gas of city gas.

- Practical Application of CO2 Separation Membrane Evaluation Equipment
Through a proprietary automatic pressure and humidity control system, it is possible to separate CO2 by arbitrarily setting the relative humidity on the permeation side and the sweep water vapor supply amount. It has been confirmed that it can concentrate CO2 to over 97% from gas containing 13% CO2 and operate stably for over a month.

■ Why This Dream is Necessary
Currently, there are no CO2 capture devices for small-scale emission sources like homes, stores, and schools. However, JCCL's technology has paved the way to capture CO2 with significantly lower energy consumption than before, using low temperatures of 50-60°C and low-pressure steam. Measures for these "decentralized emission sources" are essential to achieve a sustainable carbon-neutral society.
