### Eligibility
- Youths under 20 who have not yet entered higher education institutions such as universities.
- Those enrolled in high schools, colleges of technology (3rd year or below), secondary education schools, junior high schools, etc.
- Those eligible to take the High School Equivalency Examination, and graduates of high schools/secondary education schools.
* For foreign nationals, in addition to the above conditions, they must be enrolled in a school in Japan.
* Examination questions are in Japanese (no other language versions are available).
* Japanese representatives scheduled to participate in the International Biology Olympiad 2026 cannot participate in the Japan Biology Olympiad 2026.

## Japan Biology Olympiad 2026 Final Round (Osaka Competition)
Date: August 18 (Tuesday) - August 21 (Friday), 2026 (3 nights, 4 days)
Venue: Osaka Metropolitan University Morinomiya Campus (2-1-132 Morinomiya, Joto-ku, Osaka City)
Eligibility: Approximately 80 participants selected in the preliminary round
Awards: Top performers will receive "Gold Award", "Silver Award", "Bronze Award", and "Special Award".
In addition, approximately 12 top performers in their second year of high school or younger will be designated as candidate representatives for Japan to be dispatched to the international competition the following year (the 38th International Biology Olympiad in Poland).
## Japan Biology Olympiad 2026 Representative Selection Test
Four Japanese representatives will be selected to be dispatched to the international competition held in the Republic of Poland in July 2027.
Date: March 14, 2027 (Sunday) 12:30-16:30
Venue: Science Museum (2-1 Kitanomaru Park, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo)
Eligibility: Approximately 12 Japanese representative candidates selected through the final round.
## What is the Japan Biology Olympiad?
The Japan Biology Olympiad is a nationwide competition related to biology for youths under 20 who have not yet entered university.
The Japan Biology Olympiad 2026 also serves as the selection process for Japanese representatives to be dispatched to the International Biology Olympiad, consisting of a preliminary round, a final round, and a representative selection test for the international competition. In the preliminary round in July, theoretical problems will be examined, and approximately 80 participants will be selected to advance to the final round. In the final round, experimental examinations will be conducted in a 3-night, 4-day camp format in August.
Approximately 12 high-achievers in their second year of high school or younger in the final round will be designated as candidate representatives for Japan and can participate in the representative selection test after receiving special training. Four individuals who demonstrate excellent abilities in the representative selection test will be selected as Japanese representatives. These representatives will enhance their skills through special training by university faculty (lectures, experimental exercises, etc.) and Q&A via email, and will be dispatched to the 38th International Biology Olympiad held in the Republic of Poland in July 2027.
Furthermore, some universities may consider results from the Japan Biology Olympiad for their entrance examinations.
