The Japan Association for Working Holiday Makers, a non-profit organization that supports and promotes the Working Holiday system, has launched the smartphone app "Work-Holiday Cafe" on April 2, 2026, to improve the practical English skills of working holiday travelers.

This app is an English learning application in the form of a listening game where players listen to native orders and respond accurately in a cafe setting in Australia.

■ Development Background With the increase in working holiday travelers in recent years, opportunities for employment abroad have expanded. However, many issues have been reported, such as "I can't work because I can't understand English."

Especially in cafes and restaurants, practical listening skills are a major hurdle due to factors like: - Fast-paced orders - Slang expressions - Environments where it's difficult to ask for clarification

Through receiving numerous consultations annually, our association has strongly recognized the "necessity of getting used to 'on-site English' before departure."

Against this backdrop, we developed this app not just for learning, but as training that simulates an actual work environment.
