The internet is overflowing with information, but where can you find the "real answer"? This time, we conducted a large-scale survey within a travel enthusiast community with over 2.2 million total followers. We received over 6,000 valid responses. With no advertisements whatsoever, we've condensed the "true feelings" of travelers.
The Golden Rhythm of Planning | The "3 Months Ahead" Rule to Avoid Regret

The satisfaction of a trip isn't solely determined by how you spend your time at the destination. In fact, the timing of your preparation – "when you start moving" – is what separates smart travelers from others.
When we surveyed followers of JAPAN SELECT's outing media about "when they start planning," a surprisingly clear "golden rhythm" emerged.

Approximately half of 2.2 million people start moving "3 months in advance"
According to the survey results (cumulative 6,316 votes), the timing for starting travel plans is as follows:
3 months in advance: 47.0% (2,968 people)
2 months in advance: 22.8% (1,441 people)
1 month in advance: 17.7% (1,121 people)
Less than 1 month in advance (last minute): 12.5% (786 people)
What's noteworthy is the fact that approximately half of the total, 47%, are already making arrangements "3 months in advance."
Why "3 months in advance"? Because it's the deadline before popular accommodations and cost-effective plans start to fill up. This group carefully considers even the convenience of the location while there are still plenty of options, securing their reservations under the best conditions.
Flawless Hotel Selection and the "Comfortable Right Answer" for Booking Sites
Hotel selection and booking methods greatly influence travel satisfaction. Here too, the responses gathered from followers reflected a very realistic situation that makes you think, "Ah, that's exactly right."

Hotel Decision Priorities: "Price" and "Location" are the Two Major Factors After All

First, here are the results for "the most important points when choosing a hotel (cumulative 5,718 votes)."
Price: 55.9% (3,196 votes)
Location: 25.1% (1,436 votes)
Meals: 9.8% (560 votes)
Service: 9.2% (526 votes)
More than half, 56% of people, chose "price" as the main deciding factor. This doesn't mean they are "being stingy"; rather, it indicates that many people have clear priorities: "wisely save on accommodation costs and allocate that money to delicious local food or once-in-a-lifetime experiences (introduced below)."
On the other hand, it's also important that one in four people prioritize "location." This choice, typical of travel enthusiasts, reflects a high "time-performance awareness" – wanting to reduce travel stress and maximize enjoyment of their limited time.
The Landscape of Booking Methods: The Strength of OTAs and Challenges for Official Websites

Next, the survey on booking sites (cumulative 6,153 votes) also revealed an overwhelming "standard."
Rakuten Travel, Jalan, etc.: 61.7% (3,798 votes)
The cheapest site at the time (comparison sites, etc.): 18.5% (1,138 votes)
Hotel's official website: 16.5% (1,015 votes)
Directly by phone, etc.: 3.3% (202 votes)
Over 60% of the total, more than 3,700 people, chose "Rakuten Travel" or "Jalan." The undeniable reality is that "major OTAs (Online Travel Agencies) are still strong" in terms of user experience.
However, it's noteworthy that if you combine "the cheapest site at the time (18.5%)" and "official HP (16.5%)," approximately 35% of users are constantly comparing "options other than major sites."
If hotels want to reduce commissions and acquire repeat customers, it is essential to achieve both "a user-friendly website that rivals OTAs" and "clear price advantages unique to the official website." The trend proves that users are looking for "satisfaction and smoothness," not just low prices.

We have carefully examined over 220 free responses received from followers of JAPAN SELECT's outing media and are announcing the ranking of the best places to visit this winter.
This is not just a "popularity contest"; it is filled with specific reasons for "why the satisfaction level is so high."
Top 10 "Truly Great" Travel Destinations Chosen by Travel Enthusiasts

It's cheaper than the peak season, warm enough for sightseeing even in February, and received the strongest evaluation for both cost-performance and satisfaction.

The most specific facility nominations were for open-air baths in Jozankei and baby-friendly services in Hakodate.

Popular as a destination to enjoy with all five senses, such as fugu and ryokan in Awaji Island, and ocean views in Kobe and Maiko.

The satisfaction level of "i+Land nagasaki" is unusually high, and specific events like the Lantern Festival are also strong.
The results of this Top 1-10 ranking are closely related to the answer "price is important (56%)" in the question about hotel decision priorities.
