Japan: A Hub for Connecting World Boys' Choirs

The Japan Boys Choir Association (General Incorporated Association), located in Sapporo, Hokkaido, will announce a new international cultural exchange initiative to connect boys' choirs worldwide, through its participation in "April Dream" on April 1, 2026.

This announcement is not merely an April Fool's Day project, but an initiative positioned for realization.

■ Background

Currently, the acceptance of overseas boys' choirs in Japan often remains as one-off performances due to challenges in funding and operational structures, and a sustainable international exchange mechanism is not yet fully established.

On the other hand, there is high interest and support within Japan for world-renowned boys' choirs. However, a mechanism originating from Japan that could continuously influence boys' choirs worldwide has not existed until now.

■ Project Outline

Our association is currently promoting the establishment of an international boys' choir network, centered on the following two initiatives:

1. Japan Release (Japanese Version Sound Source Distribution)

An initiative to distribute sound sources of overseas boys' choirs within Japan.

The aim is for evaluation in the Japanese market to boost their reputation and grant acquisition in their respective countries.

2. Boys Choir Alliance (International Collaboration Platform)

A platform concept to connect boys' choirs worldwide.

We aim to build a sustainable activity base through video distribution, information dissemination, and a future revenue-sharing model.

■ What is the Boys Choir Domino Theory?

This refers to a chain reaction phenomenon where evaluation in Japan becomes the starting point, expanding the reputation and activity opportunities for boys' choirs in various countries, and that success further spreads to other nations.

Our association defines this mechanism as the "Boys Choir Domino Theory" and proposes it as a new model for international cultural exchange originating from Japan.

By gaining recognition through sound source releases, performances, and media exposure within Japan, boys' choirs in each country will enhance their credibility and visibility in their home countries, leading to the acquisition of grants and sponsors, and the creation of further opportunities for international activities.

This theory defines this cyclical structure, likening the way these achievements spread to the next country and the next choir, leading to a chain-like expansion of international musical exchange, to "dominoes."

Furthermore, our association has received inquiries and collaboration requests regarding the Japanese market from multiple overseas boys' choirs, indicating a growing interest in initiatives originating from Japan.

■ Future Outlook

As the first stage of this initiative, efforts towards concrete collaborations with overseas boys' choirs are already underway.

Moving forward, we aim to build a sustainable network where boys' choirs from around the world mutually influence each other through sound source distribution and the creation of exchange opportunities within Japan.
