Mimaki Engineering Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tomi City, Nagano Prefecture, President: Kazuaki Ikeda) will begin offering 'Mimaki 3D Print prep Pro ver2.0' (hereinafter 3DP3v2), a major update to its cloud software service 'Mimaki 3D Print prep Pro' (hereinafter 3DP3) that automatically optimizes 3D data used during 3D printer modeling, starting in June 2026.

Prior to the start of the service, a demonstration of the software from data preparation to 3D modeling will be held at RAPID + TCT 2026 (Boston, USA), which will be held from April 13, showcasing a simple and smart data preparation process to visitors.

■ 3D Printing Market Background and Challenges
In recent years, the 3D printing market has continued to grow steadily, and its applications have greatly expanded beyond prototyping in the manufacturing industry to mass production of final products, the medical field, the architectural field, and even utilization by individual creators.

On the other hand, 'data preparation' in the 3D printing process remains one of the major challenges. 3D data created by CAD, CG, and 3D scanning may not be modeled correctly as is, and it is necessary to check and correct missing shapes or irregular meshes (the surface structure of 3D data) before modeling (Figure 1). These tasks require specialized knowledge and a corresponding amount of time. Furthermore, many highly functional data correction software programs are expensive and complex to operate, posing a barrier to entry, especially for beginners.

Given this background, the 'simplification and automation of data preparation' has become an extremely important theme for realizing the further spread and market expansion of 3D printing.

■ Overview of the Update
3DP3, which we started offering in 2021, has significantly lowered implementation barriers such as cost and specialized knowledge, and is being utilized by many customers. In this update to 3DP3v2, we have added features that further expand the scope of application, while maintaining the ease of implementation through the conventional monthly subscription and the automatic optimization function. The main features are the following three points.

1) Automatic Lattice Conversion Function for Internal Structure
In addition to the conventional hollow (empty inside) and solid (filled inside) structures, a lattice structure can now be selected as the internal structure of the 3D object. With 4 types of lattice patterns to choose from and freely adjustable density settings, it not only reduces the weight of the object (Figure 2), but also supports the reproduction of textures such as cushioning and the softness of fabric (Figure 3) when combined with flexible 3D printing materials.
