Japan Design Inc. (Headquarters: Toshima-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Takuma Otsubo) held an 'Employment Celebration' on March 28, 2026, inviting four individuals scheduled to join as new graduates in 2026, along with their parents, to celebrate their new beginnings.
[Background: Addressing 'Offer Blues' Affecting Over Half of Students]
New graduates, stepping into the unknown world after finishing their student lives, harbor significant anxieties alongside their expectations. A survey targeting the graduating class of 2026 revealed that 56.7% of students felt uncertain about their chosen company after deciding on their future employer (※Reference: Mynavi Survey).
To alleviate this pre-employment anxiety, often referred to as 'offer blues,' and to ensure new employees can take their first steps into the professional world with confidence, we host an 'Employment Celebration' inviting their families.
By allowing families to see the actual working environment and meet colleagues, we aim to ease the new employees' anxieties and build a supportive system for them after they join the company.
[Main Programs Conducted on the Day]
'Tarashikomi Art' Creation for Parents and Children
As an icebreaker to ease the tension of the entrance ceremony, each family was provided with two canvases to jointly create 'Tarashikomi Art.' This activity aimed to foster a shared experience between the new employee and their parents.
By taking the finished artwork home to display, we hope they will be reminded daily of the commitment made to becoming a working professional and their feelings for their families.
Reading of Letters to Parents
In the presence of the company representative and senior employees, new hires read aloud letters expressing their gratitude to their parents. This emotional moment allowed them to articulate feelings they might not usually convey, solidifying their resolve to become independent adults.
Welcome with 'Original Manzai Comedy' by Senior Employees Embodying Company Culture
During the reception, senior employees performed an original manzai (Japanese stand-up comedy duo) routine, incorporating anecdotes about the new hires, to help them relax. This provided families with an experiential understanding of our company's culture of 'high psychological safety' and 'flat, warm communication,' not just through words.
Experiencing Culture through a Champagne Tower
At the reception, a program was conducted to experience the 'Champagne Tower Rule,' a principle valued by our company. The philosophy of first fulfilling oneself physically and mentally, and then using that overflowing energy to bring happiness to others (family, colleagues, society), was shared with the families.
[Post-Event Survey Results: 75% Alleviated Pre-Employment Anxiety]
Following the event, a survey was conducted among the new employees. When asked about the change in their pre-employment anxiety levels, 3 out of the 4 participants (※) responded that it had 'improved somewhat (anxiety decreased)'.
(※) One participant responded, 'I didn't have much anxiety to begin with.'
Furthermore, regarding the question 'Did your motivation to work change as a result of today's event?', 3 out of the 4 participants answered 'significantly improved,' and 1 responded 'improved.'
The event proved to be highly effective in resolving anxieties and boosting motivation.
[Feedback from Participants]
Comments from New Employees
- I was reminded once again that this is a very warm workplace, as so many employees worked to make this event special for us new hires. - It was impressive that the company representative spoke with my parents. I was grateful that I could convey the company atmosphere to my parents, even through casual conversation. - I was very happy that they created a skit that only someone who had been observing us candidates would understand. - This was my first time receiving something like an employment certificate in a frame, and I was very pleased.
Comments from Families
- Initially, I had significant worries like 'Can my child really work here?' and 'Can they manage in a place like Tokyo?', but these were resolved by this celebration. - We were able to learn about the company culture thanks to the many polite employees. - Knowing that my child can take their first step into the professional world with these seniors at this company filled me with anticipation and reassurance. - The overall atmosphere of the company is good, and it seems like they will be able to enjoy their work life.
