The Japan Multi-Payment Network Promotion Council, together with the National Tax Agency, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Local Tax Joint Organization, Financial Services Agency, Bank of Japan, Japanese Bankers Association, Regional Banks Association of Japan, and The Second Association of Regional Banks – all members of the Cashless Payment Promotion Council* – will launch the second phase of a joint PR campaign to promote cashless tax payments utilizing social media and other channels, starting today.
The second phase will be conducted from Friday, May 1 to Friday, May 22, 2026, coinciding with the tax payment period for corporate and individual consumption tax, automobile tax, light motor vehicle tax, and property tax.
*The Cashless Payment Promotion Council was established in May 2024, comprising the aforementioned public and private sector stakeholders, with the aim of identifying issues and business needs related to cashless payments, discussing implementation methods, and planning and developing various measures such as reviewing tools and methods for encouraging usage.
Following the first phase conducted in January this year, the public and private sectors will work together to continuously disseminate the benefits of cashless tax payments, aiming to establish an environment where taxpayers can easily pay taxes "anytime, anywhere."
Especially during this May period, when many people have tax payment opportunities, we encourage everyone to experience the convenience of cashless payments, which can be completed with "zero waiting time" from their smartphone or PC. Our council will continue to work hand-in-hand with relevant parties to promote the digitalization of tax payments that are close to everyone's daily lives.
