NAA Retailing Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Narita City, Chiba Prefecture; President & CEO: Hiroshi Matsuzawa), a group company of Narita International Airport Corporation (NAA), has decided to introduce a newly developed shopping bag certified with the '95%' Biomass Mark (※2) at its duty-free stores, including 'Fa-So-La,' at Narita International Airport—marking the first time such a certified bag will be used at an airport retail location in Japan (※1). The rollout will begin in July 2026.
This shopping bag was jointly developed by JALUX Inc. (Headquarters: Minato Ward, Tokyo; President & CEO: Toshiaki Koshi), a trading company within the JAL Group focused on promoting environmentally conscious materials, and Braskem S.A. (Headquarters: São Paulo, Brazil; CEO: Roberto Ramos), a pioneer and global leader in biopolymer production.

※2 A certification mark operated by the Japan Organic Resources Association, indicating that over 95% of the material is derived from biomass.
The I’m green™ biopolyethylene used in the new shopping bags is made from ethanol sourced from Brazilian sugarcane, procured with sustainability in mind. It offers performance equivalent to conventional petroleum-based plastics and contributes to carbon neutrality, as sugarcane absorbs CO₂ during its growth cycle. Compared to the current shopping bags (※3), this new version is expected to reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 700 tons (※4). By maximizing the use of I’m green™ biopolyethylene, the initiative will also help reduce petroleum consumption. While achieving the highest biomass content level—95%—among Biomass Mark-certified bag products, the new bag maintains usability and durability, successfully balancing customer convenience with environmental responsibility.
The four companies involved in this initiative will continue to expand their efforts to reduce environmental impact and contribute to achieving CO₂ reduction targets.
※3 Current bag composition: 25% biomass plastic, 40% recycled plastic, 35% petroleum-based plastic
