June 5 is 'World Environment Day.'
JAL Group continues to build on its track record toward achieving 'Net Zero CO2 Emissions by 2050.'
To fulfill its responsibility to pass on a healthy planet to future generations, JAL Group is working on the effective utilization of limited resources. We have been promoting the 3R (Reduce/Reuse/Recycle) + 1 (Redesign) strategy, and specifically for all disposable plastics (in-house items) provided to customers, we have set and worked toward reduction targets for FY2025.
Along with the JAL Group's FY2025 GX (Green Transformation) management goals, JAL has now achieved its management target for plastic reduction for the 2025 fiscal year.
■ Initiatives for Plastic Reduction to Date
Disposable plastics contribute to climate change by emitting CO2 during production and incineration. Furthermore, their low biodegradability causes serious damage to marine environments and ecosystems. To reduce the use of new petroleum-derived disposable plastics, JAL Group first reviewed the necessity of each item, prioritizing 'Reduce' as the top consideration. For items that cannot be discontinued due to hygiene or service reasons, we have collaborated with suppliers to redesign products for reuse or switch to alternative materials (such as biomass, recycled plastic, or certified paper).
■ Initiatives for Effective Resource Utilization
Beyond reducing disposable plastics, we are working on the effective use of limited resources, including recycling cabin waste and reducing food waste, to realize a circular economy.
JAL Group will continue to strive for the reduction of new petroleum-derived disposable plastics and the effective use of limited resources, challenging itself to address climate change, preserve biodiversity, and promote resource circulation.
