■Why not try making "Han-zu tea," also known as the phantom tea?
Han-zu tea is a traditional tea from the Matsumoto and Hioki areas, made using a method involving a water jar called "han-do" (pronounced "han-zu" in Kagoshima dialect). Similar to the pan-fired tea production method introduced in the Edo period, it does not involve a steaming process. The method, which primarily involves pan-frying using a han-zu jar and hand-rolling, has become extremely rare today. With only a handful of producers remaining, Han-zu tea is a rare existence that conveys the history of tea in Kagoshima.
■Lunch box included! Meals using tea are planned for the contents.
Let's wait for the Han-zu tea to dry while eating a lunch box. In addition, a tea tasting and sampling event are planned. Once the drying is complete, you can take home the Han-zu tea as a souvenir.
■Conducted with the cooperation of university students from the Prefectural Junior College and the Kagoshima City Tea Hand-Rolling Preservation Association.
This time, we will receive cooperation from the "Kagoshima Prefectural College Tea Education Research Group," which aims to pass on disappearing flavors to the next generation, and Mr. Kenji Shinfuku, who is the chairman of the "Kagoshima City Tea Hand-Rolling Preservation Association" and inherits the Han-zu tea making tradition.
