Watch Video JAF (Japan Automobile Federation) Kagoshima Branch (Branch Manager: Kentaro Uehara) has jointly produced and released an awareness video with the Ministry of the Environment to prevent traffic accidents (hereinafter referred to as roadkill) involving the Amami Black Rabbit, an endemic species found only on Amami Oshima and Tokunoshima. The video was released on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

Background of Video Production: Record High Number of Roadkill Incidents 〇 Record High Number of Accidents Roadkill incidents involving the Amami Black Rabbit have been increasing in recent years. 2025 saw the highest number of roadkill incidents on record. * 〇 Changes in Habitat Due to the success of conservation efforts, rabbits are now appearing on roads closer to human settlements, increasing the risk even in areas where accidents were previously rare. 〇 Danger at Night The Amami Black Rabbit is nocturnal and has a tendency to suddenly dart out onto forest roads and main roads at night. When driving at night, please be aware of sudden appearances and drive at a reduced speed.

Video Overview The video produced this time introduces the characteristics of the Amami Black Rabbit and explains precautions for night driving, which could not be fully conveyed through static images and text alone. It also touches upon points to be aware of while driving, such as reducing speed at night. The video is currently available on the JAF Kagoshima Branch's local information page. We also plan to disseminate information widely by sharing details about the video on the social media of related organizations.

Prize Campaign To coincide with the video release, we are holding a prize campaign where you can enjoy the unique charm of Amami. We will be giving away a selection of sweets provided by "Amami no Sato," a spot where you can experience the nature and culture of Amami. This campaign is exclusive to JAF members.
