The Japan Legacy Donation Association (Will for Japan), established in August 2019, has been working to make legacy donations a common practice. In 2025, the Public Interest Incorporated Foundation Will for Japan was established to promote the Free Wills Campaign, which subsidizes will preparation costs. 'Engift' is a specialized magazine on legacy donations, issued annually and distributed free of charge, with over 64,000 copies in total circulation. It introduces donation cases to organizations addressing social issues, universities, and local governments, as well as guidance on choosing donation recipients and personal experiences. Legacy donation is a method of contributing to society by donating a portion of one's assets to non-profit organizations or local schools after death through a will. It can be done with small amounts starting from 100,000 yen, and since the donation is executed after death, there is no concern about remaining deposit balances. Despite its effectiveness, legacy donation is not yet common in Japan, partly due to resistance to creating wills and lack of awareness.
