ITOKI Corporation (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Koji Minato) will exhibit at the Security & Safety Trade Expo 2026, held at Intex Osaka from April 15 (Wednesday) to 17 (Friday), 2026, to introduce its multi-disaster shelter door "BOUNCEBACK."

In Japan, a country prone to disasters, the importance of developing shelters to prepare for natural disasters and emergencies has been increasing year by year. Discussions for their widespread adoption are progressing, with the establishment of the "Parliamentary League for the Promotion of Shelters (Robust Evacuation Facilities) and Underground Utilization" in 2022. It is becoming a familiar theme, with expectations for development in public spaces such as municipal facilities.

At this exhibition, the Japan Nuclear Shelter Association, together with its member companies, will launch the first-ever shelter zone (10 booths in total) at an exhibition in the Kansai region. State-of-the-art technologies, materials, and services related to underground evacuation facilities and nuclear shelters will be showcased.

Background of Development

For half a century, our company has delivered approximately 3,000 special doors to advanced medical and research facilities in Japan, responding to diverse requirements and conditions with reliable quality backed by our technology. The multi-disaster shelter door "BOUNCEBACK," introduced this time, possesses impact resistance, airtightness, watertightness, and radiation shielding performance as disaster prevention and defense functions, protecting and isolating human lives and data equipment that form the foundation of social infrastructure from various threats.

In Japan, as the severity of the security environment increases in addition to natural disasters, prefectural governors and mayors of designated cities are designating evacuation facilities in cooperation with relevant local governments, based on the Act on the Protection of the People. For emergency temporary evacuation facilities, which are robust buildings such as concrete structures or underground facilities, the designation process has been intensively promoted for five years from FY2021 to FY2025. As of April 1, 2025, there are 61,142 emergency temporary evacuation facilities, of which 4,233 are underground facilities (buildings where evacuation to underground is possible). (*)

In the private sector, an increasing number of individuals and companies are considering installing underground shelters. In Japan, which experiences many natural disasters, underground shelters are considered effective against earthquakes and typhoons, and their usefulness is attracting attention.

Main Features of the Multi-Disaster Shelter Door "BOUNCEBACK"

・World-leading impact resistance, airtightness, watertightness, and radiation shielding performance achieved with Made in JAPAN quality

BOUNCEBACK is a completely Japanese-made product, with all processes from planning and design to parts procurement and product assembly completed within Japan. It achieves 400 kN/m2 impact resistance with an explosion-proof structure based on simulation-FEM analysis. Furthermore, it achieves 2 m3/m2・h airtightness (at a differential pressure of 10kPa) and 0.03 m3/m2・h watertightness (at a water head of 10M) by adopting a 2-way hinge. By labyrinthizing the handle shaft, it also achieves radiation shielding performance equivalent to 200mm thick ordinary concrete without shielding defects.

・Opening/closing & tightening system that can be operated by women and children, despite weighing approximately 1.4 tons

Despite weighing approximately 1.4 tons, the door can be opened and closed smoothly by women and children without feeling its weight, thanks to its high-performance hinges and precise installation.

・Six safety measures for safe handling even in emergencies

It features a door-integrated opening/closing bar that prevents gripping the edges, a hinge-side safety cover that prevents hands and fingers from entering, floor clearance that prevents shoe tips from entering, a 2-way hinge that pulls the door towards the frame with handle operation, a round flat handle (spokeless handle) without gaps or protrusions to prevent debris or hands from getting caught, and a handle lock mechanism that prevents operation when the door is open. These features ensure safe handling even in the confusion of an emergency, preventing secondary injuries.
