In Japan, a country prone to disasters, the importance of maintaining shelters in preparation for natural disasters and emergencies has been increasing year by year. Discussions toward popularization are progressing, such as the establishment of the 'Parliamentary League for the Promotion of Shelters (Sturdy Evacuation Facilities) and Underground Utilization' in 2022. It is becoming a familiar theme, with expectations for maintenance in public spaces such as municipal facilities in the future.
At this exhibition, the Japan Nuclear Shelter Association, together with its member companies, will deploy a shelter zone (10 booths in total) for the first time at an exhibition in the western Japan area. Cutting-edge technologies, materials, and services related to underground evacuation facilities and nuclear shelters will be introduced all in one place.
■ Background of Development
Over the past half-century, our company has delivered approximately 3,000 special doors to advanced medical and research facilities in Japan, and we have responded to a wide variety of demands and conditions with reliable quality backed by our technology. The multi-disaster prevention shelter door 'BOUNCEBACK' introduced this time has shock resistance, airtightness, watertightness, and radiation shielding performance as disaster prevention and defense functions, and protects and isolates human lives and data equipment that serve as the foundation of social life from various threats.
In Japan, while the security environment is becoming more severe in addition to natural disasters, based on the Civil Protection Law, prefectural governors and mayors of designated cities are designating evacuation facilities in cooperation with relevant local governments. Among evacuation facilities, regarding emergency temporary evacuation facilities, which are sturdy buildings such as concrete structures and underground facilities, a concentrated effort period of five years from fiscal 2021 to fiscal 2025 has been set to promote their designation. As of April 1, 2025, there are 61,142 emergency temporary evacuation facilities, of which 4,233 are underground facilities (buildings where evacuation to the underground is possible). (*)
In the private sector as well, an increasing number of individuals and companies are considering installing underground shelters. In Japan, which experiences many natural disasters, underground shelters are considered effective even during earthquakes and typhoons, and their usefulness is attracting attention.
■ Main Features of the Multi-Disaster Prevention Shelter Door 'BOUNCEBACK'
- Shock resistance, airtightness, watertightness, and radiation shielding performance that lead global standards, realized 'Made in JAPAN'
BOUNCEBACK is a completely Japanese-made product completed entirely in Japan, from planning and design to parts procurement and product assembly. In addition to realizing a shock resistance of 400 kN/m2 with an explosion-proof structure based on simulation - FEM analysis -, it achieves an airtightness of 2 m3/m2·h (differential pressure: at 10 kPa) by adopting a 2-WAY hinge.
