Information-technology Promotion Agency, Japan

The Information-technology Promotion Agency, Japan (IPA, Chairman: Hiroshi Saito) has made an additional investment in Rapidus Corporation as financial support for the mass production of next-generation semiconductors.

■Background

Next-generation semiconductors are a key technology that holds the key to realizing a digital society in Japan, including the implementation of generative AI and autonomous driving. In light of the rapid expansion of the use of generative AI and the resulting significant increase in the amount of computation required in the future, it is necessary to develop a manufacturing base for next-generation semiconductors in Japan. Therefore, IPA is implementing financial support operations for the mass production of next-generation semiconductors.

■Overview

As financial support for the mass production of next-generation semiconductors, IPA has made an additional investment of 150 billion yen through a third-party allotment of shares to Rapidus Corporation (Note 2), which is a selected business operator (Note 1).
Combined with the 100 billion yen investment made last fiscal year, IPA's total investment amounts to 250 billion yen. Going forward, IPA will continue to work towards the development of a manufacturing base for next-generation semiconductors in Japan through financial support.
