Our company endorses April Dream, which aims to make April 1st a day for sharing dreams. This press release represents the "dream" envisioned by IntraPhoton Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kusatsu City, Shiga Prefecture; Representative Director: Toshihiko Honkura).
Our "dream": Smart glasses indistinguishable from reality.
Can you tell if the world you are seeing right now is "reality" or "an image"? We aim to realize a world where everyone can routinely wear and use VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality) glasses that are so realistic they are indistinguishable from reality.
VR/AR glasses are also called "smart glasses" and are said to become a replacement for smartphones. Information will expand from "the screen in your hand" to "the space in front of your eyes."
For example, imagine everyday glasses. A tiny display, only 2-3mm in size, is housed within its thin frame, naturally projecting realistic images – such a future will become a reality.
In that world, navigation will overlay the scenery, allowing you to move without getting lost.
Distant family and friends will feel as if they are right beside you.
Furthermore, in medical and manufacturing fields, realistic simulations will be possible repeatedly.
If such a world expands, ways of working, moving, communicating, and even artistic expression will change significantly.
The essential technology for realizing this world is "microLEDs," light-emitting elements at the micrometer (1/1,000 millimeter) level. However, red LEDs had the challenge of decreasing efficiency when miniaturized. Our company has overcome this challenge with GaN:Eu technology (Europium-doped Gallium Nitride technology), a research achievement by Professor Yasufumi Fujiwara of Ritsumeikan University.
Furthermore, we are challenging ourselves to realize technology that applies advanced semiconductor manufacturing techniques to produce countless displays smaller than a grain of rice on a large substrate, each displaying high-definition images.
What we aim for is not limited to smart glasses. It's a world where information and images generated by generative AI can be displayed in front of your eyes anytime, anywhere. We envision deployment to all kinds of devices, such as smartwatches, smart rings, and even smart contact lenses.
Currently, it is said that only about 20-30% of the world's workforce works in a desktop environment in front of a PC. If location-independent work styles become widespread, productivity will greatly improve, and the way we travel will also change.
IntraPhoton's technology holds such possibilities.
And beyond that, there is a future where experiences "indistinguishable from reality" become commonplace.
If you could get such realistic smart glasses just for you, how would you want to use them?
Tell us your dream with #AprilDream #IntraPhoton.
We want to respond to that dream with technology.
