Marubeni Corporation Implements Japanese ERP 'GRANDIT' for its Food & Agri Division

Infocom Corporation announced that its domestic ERP system, 'GRANDIT,' has been implemented in the Food & Agri Division of the general trading company Marubeni Corporation by partner Sojitz Techinnovation. Spurred by the need to address the 'SAP 2027 problem,' the project completely replaces a 40-year-old legacy sales system. By leveraging experience from a previous implementation in the former Chemicals Division, the project achieved cost reductions and faster decision-making through business process standardization.

Infocom Corporation, which operates the GRANDIT Consortium, promotes the development and sales of the domestic ERP 'GRANDIT.' The consortium's prime partner, Sojitz Techinnovation Inc. (STech I), has now implemented 'GRANDIT' in the Food & Agri Division of the general trading company Marubeni Corporation. This move, prompted by the need to address the 'SAP 2027 problem,' completely overhauls a legacy sales system that had been in operation for approximately 40 years. The renewal successfully reduced development costs, ensured system quality, and accelerated decision-making by implementing approval workflows.

Marubeni has been undertaking a project to migrate from SAP to 'GRANDIT' across 10 of its own sales divisions and 20 domestic group companies. The implementation in the Food & Agri Division follows the successful go-live for the former Chemicals Division in October 2023.

The division had used its custom-developed legacy sales system for about four decades, but the accumulation of customizations and add-ons had led to an increased maintenance and operational burden. This, combined with an aging basic design and a decline in personnel capable of overseeing the entire system, made replacement an urgent necessity.

In this project, by leveraging the expertise gained from the 'GRANDIT' implementation for the former Chemicals Division, the team was able to focus on developing functions specific to the Food & Agri Division. This approach significantly reduced development costs while ensuring system quality. Furthermore, with 'Fit to Standard' as a core policy, sales department members also participated in the project. They held multiple meetings each month to build consensus, promoting business standardization while curbing excessive customizations.

Infocom stated that, together with STech I—a system integrator with deep knowledge of trading operations and ERP implementation experience—it will continue to advance customers' business reforms through 'GRANDIT.' The company plans to keep contributing to the business expansion and diverse work styles of its customers in collaboration with the GRANDIT Consortium members.

'GRANDIT' is an evolutionary ERP developed through a consortium model that consolidates the expertise of various IT companies. It includes standard modules for core operations such as accounting, sales, and HR, as well as BI, e-commerce, and workflow functions. It also supports multi-currency and multi-company features, and adapts to the latest infrastructure like cloud services, thereby supporting the growth of Japanese companies.
