Meeting with the Next Queen Consort of the Yogyakarta Royal Family in Indonesia

Indonesia Soken (hereinafter, Indonesia Soken) held a meeting with Her Royal Highness Mangkubumi, the next Queen Consort, at the Yogyakarta Royal Palace in Indonesia. Through this meeting, Indonesia Soken is expected to be appointed as the official Japanese liaison by the Yogyakarta State Government and the Royal Household Agency. Moving forward, it will serve as the "JAPAN-JOGJA HUB," connecting Japanese companies with Yogyakarta in four key areas: human resources, technology, investment, and education.

Why Yogyakarta is attracting attention now

The business environment in Indonesia has traditionally been discussed primarily around Jakarta. However, in recent years, the importance of regional cities has rapidly increased, with Yogyakarta Special Region emerging as a prime focus.

Yogyakarta is often called the "Kyoto of Indonesia," a special city where history, tradition, and culture still thrive. It boasts over 100 higher education institutions, including Gadjah Mada University, the oldest national university in Indonesia, making it an "educational city" that attracts talented young people from across the country. Furthermore, it is home to the World Heritage sites of Borobudur Temple Compounds and Prambanan Temple Compounds, drawing numerous tourists from both within Indonesia and abroad throughout the year.

Most notably, Yogyakarta is the only "Special Region" in Indonesia where a monarchy continues to exist in modern times. In Yogyakarta, it is legally stipulated that the Sultan (monarch) of the Hamengkubuwono family serves as the governor, and the head of the Paku Alam family serves as the vice-governor, establishing a decision-making system where the government and the royal family work as one. This unique governance structure is precisely what makes Yogyakarta a "strategic hub" that sets it apart from other regional cities.

Regarding the meeting with the next Queen Consort of the Yogyakarta Royal Palace in Indonesia

Indonesia Soken recently had the opportunity to meet with Her Royal Highness Mangkubumi, the next Queen Consort, at the Yogyakarta Royal Palace. Her Royal Highness Mangkubumi is the eldest daughter who was granted the title of successor by the current Sultan Hamengkubuwono X in 2015. She has demonstrated strong leadership in various fields, including business, environment, and social activities, having served for many years as the chairperson of the Yogyakarta Special Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin DIY).

During this meeting, opinions were exchanged on strengthening cooperation between Japan and Yogyakarta in economic, human resources, and cultural aspects. Through this meeting, Indonesia Soken is expected to be appointed as the official Japanese liaison by the Yogyakarta State Government and the Royal Household Agency, thus fulfilling its role as an "official bridge" connecting the two countries.

Four areas of support to be developed as "JAPAN-JOGJA HUB"

Indonesia Soken will henceforth develop comprehensive support in the following four areas as the "JAPAN-JOGJA HUB."

① Human Resources Dispatch

Indonesia has a rich young population, and Yogyakarta, in particular, as an educational city, gathers excellent human resources. By dispatching these human resources to Japan, we aim to simultaneously resolve Japan's severe labor shortage and create employment in Indonesia.

② Technology Transfer

By deploying superior technology held by Japanese companies to Indonesia, we support the advancement of local industries. There is a very high demand for technology transfer, especially in the manufacturing and infrastructure sectors.

③ Investment Brokerage

We will identify investment projects in Yogyakarta and introduce them to Japanese companies. By collaborating with the royal family and the provincial government, it becomes possible to approach projects and decision-making layers that are usually difficult to access.

④ University Partnership Support

Leveraging its characteristics as an educational city, we support the promotion of industry-academia collaboration, such as joint research with universities and the development of educational content.
