What is the Day of the Dog during Spring Doyo?
Did you know that Japan has a Doyo period for each season? During the Doyo period, there are certain foods that are said to be good for maintaining one's health. For example, the "Day of the Ox during Doyo (Ushi no Hi)" is a well-known summer tradition, where many people eat eel to build stamina. However, on the "Day of the Dog during Doyo (Inu no Hi)", there is a custom of eating foods that start with "i" or "white" foods to maintain a balanced diet. Koganesengan (white sweet potato), used in Kinjiro's special Imo-kenpi and Tsubu-kenpi, is exactly a "white" food that starts with "i". It is highly recommended for the spring Doyo.

About Imoya Kinjiro

Imoya Kinjiro opened its Hidaka main store in 2005 as a specialty sweet potato confectionery store offering high-quality fresh Imo-kenpi. Currently, we operate stores mainly in Shikoku, as well as Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, and Korea. Imo-kenpi is a simple confectionery made only from sweet potatoes, oil, and sugar, so the deliciousness and freshness of the ingredients are directly reflected. That is why Imoya Kinjiro's Imo-kenpi starts with sweet potato cultivation. While cultivating our own farms, we also work with contract farmers in Southern Kyushu and Hokkaido to improve the soil. The carefully grown sweet potatoes are transported to the factory by the day after harvest, and primary processing is completed on the same day to lock in freshness.

Response to Sweet Potato Root Rot Disease

Sweet potato root rot disease is rapidly spreading nationwide. Its occurrence has been confirmed even among our contract farmers in Southern Kyushu. Different measures are required, such as using disease-free healthy seedlings and early harvesting, and we are working to prevent infected raw sweet potatoes from being delivered. In addition, to continue producing good sweet potatoes, we have also started initiatives for "soil improvement." Aiming to revitalize the soil, we are implementing "crop rotation" with potatoes and other crops, not only on our own farms but also with the cooperation of our contract farmers. By growing crops other than sweet potatoes, we are building a crop rotation system to prevent biased fields, and the necessary work for growing each crop ultimately leads to sweet potato cultivation. The cultivated crops are commercialized and sold by Imoya Kinjiro.
