Nihombashi Mitsukoshi Main Store will hold the 70th Treasured Yamagata Fair from Wednesday, May 27 to Monday, June 1, 2026, at the event hall on the 7th floor of the main building. The fair will showcase distinctive products from Yamagata, including cherries, for which the prefecture boasts Japan’s highest production volume, anniversary menus and sweets, special eat-in dishes served at the venue, and seasonal crafts. Through selected products by local producers and artisans, the event will present the appeal of Yamagata’s food culture and craftsmanship. The Treasured Yamagata Fair is an annual product fair introducing Yamagata’s specialties, food culture and crafts. Over the years, it has served as a place connecting local producers directly with urban visitors, while helping revitalize regional industries and discover attractive local products. Held each year in early summer, when shipments of Yamagata cherries begin to increase, this 70th edition will feature cherries as well as commemorative sweets, special eat-in offerings and a wide range of crafts in cooperation with local producers. Highlights include special eat-in menus using Yamagata ingredients. Urushiyama Orchard will offer a 70th-anniversary premium parfait made with 70 Yamagata cherries, including fresh fruit and confiture, plus six kinds of gelato. The parfait is limited to 10 servings per day and priced at 7,700 yen. Cherry parfaits and cherry chocolate parfaits will also be available. Al ché-cciano, the internationally known Italian restaurant in Tsuruoka led by chef Masayuki Okuda and known for its local-production-for-local-consumption cuisine, will appear with eat-in dishes including innovative udon topped with Yamagata beef slowly simmered for four days with wine and tomatoes, and yellowtail cutlet curry served with Haenuki rice from Inoue Farm. Shinshunya Honten, a popular ramen shop from Yamagata, known as a ramen kingdom, will serve its Golden Chicken Chuka special with all toppings, featuring a rich golden chicken soup, high-hydration noodles, egg, chashu and wontons. The fair will also offer freshly harvested cherries shipped directly from Yamagata, described as edible jewels, including Sato Nishiki and Beni Shuho from Urushiyama Orchard and Sato Nishiki from Seitenbatake. Local sweets include Kiyokawaya’s White Paris Roll set comparing Yamagata cherry and fresh cream flavors, Nora Farm’s cherry sandwich cookies, Daikokuya’s freshly baked Kaminoyama apple pie, Kineya Honten’s fresh ripple pie, and Nakajo Manju’s tempura manju soft serve and red bean soft serve. Yamadaya’s Shirotsuyu Fuki-mame, a beloved version of Yamagata’s traditional bean confection, will also be specially offered. Bento offerings include Tsuruoka Ryori Suzune’s Yamagata outing bento with Yamagata beef, wild red sea bream, salmon roe and homegrown mountain vegetables, and Yonezawa Kohakudo’s luxurious Yonezawa beef steak and sukiyaki bento. Crafts include Harikoma-ya’s first appearance from May 27 to 30, featuring palm-sized papier-mache works inspired by Shonai and Yamagata, such as a Hanagasa dragon, cherry motifs and a Mitsukoshi-themed lion. Kikumaro Kokeshi Studio will appear from May 30 to June 1 with cherry-themed kokeshi dolls and live painting demonstrations. Kenland Linen will sell a Yamagata Fair-exclusive color linen knit reversible stole, the 2026 Color Pallet.
