IKEA Announces the 10th Collection of the IKEA PS Series, 'IKEA PS 2026', Launching Gradually from May 28, 2026

IKEA Japan K.K., the Japanese subsidiary of the Swedish home furnishings company IKEA, which envisions a 'better everyday life for the many,' will launch 'IKEA PS 2026'—the 10th collection of the over 30-year-old IKEA PS series. Sales will begin gradually at IKEA stores nationwide starting Thursday, May 28, 2026, followed by the IKEA online store on Monday, June 1, 2026.

Since its debut at the Salone del Mobile in 1995, the 'IKEA PS series' has produced numerous masterpieces with innovative designs. Over its three-decade history, the series has served as an experimental platform for 'Democratic Design' (design for everyone) and has showcased products united by the common thread of being pioneers in Scandinavian design. The name 'PS' (postscript) was chosen to signify that the series is a collection distinct from IKEA's main product lines.

Returning after a nine-year hiatus, 'IKEA PS 2026'—the most progressive collection in the series—features 44 new products created by one creative leader and 12 designers. Centered on the theme of 'playful functionality,' the items are designed to resolve real-world daily needs while adding joy and individuality to how products are used and engaged with. Based on the open-ended theme of 'interpreting Scandinavian design in one’s own way,' the collection offers items that are simple, functional, and full of personality. Each product is designed to stimulate human curiosity and the instinct to reach out and touch.

Playful Details
The 'playful details' incorporated into 'IKEA PS 2026' are designed not to be viewed from a distance, but to be discovered. For example, a table with hidden drawers on both sides acts not only as a dining table for two but also converts into a game board for chess or other games. A chair constructed with simple shapes allows one to sit upright, sideways, or lean back with full weight. Furthermore, a height-adjustable stool made of pine wood features a large gear-style lever, inviting users to instinctively reach out and experiment with how it functions.

Living in Limited Spaces and the Value of Objects
The IKEA PS series consistently focuses on how people wish to live and what they seek in their surroundings. As homes constantly evolve and spaces require multi-role functionality, this series reflects the lives of many people today. 'IKEA PS 2026' specifically addresses the needs of 'living in limited spaces.'

In homes where space is limited, objects must offer commensurate value. Products in this collection possess more functions than they initially appear to have. For example, a floor lamp can be switched to three lighting positions (spotlight, reading light, uplight) by manually rotating an angled joint, creating entirely different atmospheres. A lounge chair can be expanded into a guest bed in three steps, and a folding chair is designed to be hung on a wall as a 3D artwork when not needed. Functions are either hidden until needed or integrated seamlessly into the design to fit naturally into everyday life.

Material Innovation and Craftsmanship
Since the mid-1990s, IKEA has experimented with using air as a material in furniture. A successful example featured in 'IKEA PS 2026' involves two independent air [truncated] elements within a chrome-plated tubular frame.
