The Academic Conference on Child Bullying Prevention (Kodomo Ijime Bōshi Gakkai) has released the program for its "2nd Annual Meeting of the Academic Conference on Child Bullying Prevention," to be held on July 11 (Sat.) and 12 (Sun.), 2026, at Tokyo Medical University (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo). A portion of the program is available to those who have not registered as members or participants. (You can view it here).
At this conference, experts from diverse fields including education, medicine, psychology, law, and administration will gather to share the latest knowledge and practices on bullying prevention, preventing escalation, and children's mental care.
In recent years, issues surrounding children have become increasingly complex, including bullying and slander via SNS, the link between bullying and self-harm/suicide, and trauma care. At this conference, leading experts from each field will discuss these issues from both research and practical perspectives.
Program
Keynote Speech
"SNS and Bullying -- Understanding Adolescence as an 'Alien Culture' and Protecting Children's Minds Through Multidisciplinary Collaboration"
Speaker: Toshio Uchiyama (Fukushima Gakuin University)
The spread of smartphones and SNS has significantly changed how children communicate. This lecture will interpret adolescence as an "alien culture" and, from the perspective of a child psychiatrist, shed light on online relationships and cyberbullying that are difficult for adults to understand, as well as children's mental health.
Invited Lecture
"Can Bullying Countermeasures Escape 'Unfounded Enthusiasm' -- The Need for 'Evidence-Based and Effective Practices' in the Reduction Phase"
Speaker: Chiki Ogiue (Critic, Representative Director of NPO 'Stop Bullying! Navi')
What are "evidence-based and effective practices" based on domestic and international research and studies, rather than relying solely on experience and enthusiasm? Prominent social critic Chiki Ogiue will examine the current state of bullying countermeasures and propose evidence-based approaches to prevention and response required in school settings.
Commemorative Symposium
"Bullying Countermeasures from Within and Outside Schools Achieved Through Multidisciplinary Collaboration"
Speakers: Toshio Uchiyama, Chiki Ogiue, Shuko Morimoto (Lawyer), Manabu Wakuta (Education)
Speakers will discuss bullying countermeasures through collaboration utilizing their respective expertise from the perspectives of education, medicine, law, and research.
Special Lecture
"Bullying and Self-Harm/Suicide"
Speaker: Toshihiko Matsumoto (National Center of Neurology and Psychiatry)
How does bullying affect children's minds and lead to self-harm and suicide? This lecture will scientifically organize the connections based on domestic and international research findings, and consider the perspectives necessary to protect children's lives, including support for cyberbullying and children with diverse backgrounds.
Breakout Sessions
On the second day of the conference, three breakout sessions will be held on practical themes.
Breakout Session 1: Bullying Prevention Initiatives
