IHI Plant Corporation (a member of the IHI Group), Taisei Corporation, and Chubu Plant Service Co., Inc. have received an order from JERA Co., Inc. for the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) of four fuel ammonia storage tanks (total capacity: 160,000 tons) and all associated equipment, and are proceeding with the construction work. This is in preparation for the start of commercial operation of large-scale ammonia co-firing (20% by heating value).

This project is a key initiative in JERA's "JERA Zero Emission 2050" plan. Construction is progressing towards the start of commercial operation of large-scale ammonia co-firing (20% by heating value) at the Hekinan Thermal Power Plant, targeted for fiscal year 2029. As of March 2026, the outer tank roofs for Unit 1 and Unit 2 have been raised using the air-raising method, and exterior construction is complete.

In this project, IHI Plant is responsible for the design of the ammonia tanks and all auxiliary equipment, procurement of machinery, electrical instrumentation, and piping, in addition to the construction of the ammonia storage tanks. Taisei Corporation is handling the foundation work for the ammonia storage tanks and the construction of the containment dikes, as well as the foundations and building work for auxiliary facilities. Chubu Plant Service is in charge of the piping and structural frame design for the receiving facilities, and the mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation work for the auxiliary equipment.

Leveraging its extensive experience and high technical expertise in the LNG tank and terminal sector, IHI Plant will continue to contribute to the realization of a low-carbon society, including the utilization of ammonia, to achieve a sustainable energy transition.

Taisei Corporation is undertaking this project by leveraging its extensive track record and high level of technical skill cultivated over many years. Through construction that pursues both safety and quality, under the group philosophy of "Creating a vibrant environment for people," it will contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society.

Chubu Plant Service has built trust by being involved in the construction, operation, and maintenance of various plant facilities, always striving to improve its technology while sincerely engaging with customers. It will continue to contribute to the realization of a sustainable future society together with its stakeholders, based on its human resources and technological capabilities.
