Breakfast Menu Ranking | Japanese Breakfast Changing by Generation: A 1,000-Person Survey
Ibridge Corporation (Headquarters: Fukushima-ku, Osaka; Representative Director and President: Kazuya Arakawa), which operates the ranking site "Rank+", conducted a survey on "Breakfast Habits" among 1,000 men and women aged 20-50 nationwide.
The results revealed that Japanese breakfast habits change significantly with age. From those in their 20s who prefer "simple Japanese meals" (centered on minimal combinations like rice + egg dishes), to those in their 40s where "full Japanese meals" (with miso soup added, changing to a typical home breakfast composition) are established, and then a "return to bread-based meals" occurs in their 50s – breakfast paints a "mountain-shaped story" reflecting the life stages and rhythms of each generation.
Furthermore, generational differences were not limited to the menu but also extended to "eating frequency" and "gender balance." Among these, the highest percentage of people who skip breakfast was found among women in their 20s at 39.2%, an unexpected result showing almost 40% do not eat breakfast.
Key Points of the Survey Results

Point ① Menus change in a "mountain shape"
People in their 20s and 30s prefer simple Japanese meals (centered on minimal combinations like rice + egg dishes). In their 40s, it becomes a full Japanese meal (with miso soup added, changing to a typical home breakfast composition). Then, in their 50s, there was a tendency to return to bread-based meals. Japanese breakfast habits changed shape, reflecting the generations.

Point ② No. 1 for skipping breakfast is women in their 20s, almost 40% skip breakfast
Looking at the percentage of people who skip breakfast by age and gender, women in their 20s had the highest rate (39.2%). This was a prominent figure among all ages and genders. While men tend to skip breakfast more from their 30s onwards, only in their 20s did women surpass men in this regard.
On the other hand, over 80% of women in their 50s eat breakfast. Only 12.0% skip it, revealing a difference so vast that it's like "a different world for women of the same generation."

Furthermore, over half of those who eat breakfast responded that "eating improves concentration," indicating a difference in performance awareness across generations.

Japanese vs. Western Breakfast | Unexpected Breakfast Menus
Point ③ Unexpected reality of Japanese vs. Western breakfast eaters
When actual menus were asked to those who answered "Japanese breakfast" and "Western breakfast" respectively, a reality different from the image emerged. Even among Japanese breakfast eaters, less than half eat a "complete Japanese meal" combination (rice + miso soup + grilled fish or natto). On the other hand, Western breakfast eaters primarily have toast and simple combinations, with less than 20% eating salad. The reality of modern breakfast, both "Japanese-style" and "Western-style," was simpler than expected.
