Celebrating 20 Years of Activity

COMA-CHI (Komachi), a rapper/singer representing the Japanese HIPHOP scene, is launching an anniversary project to commemorate her 20 years of activity. As part of this project, she will host special live performances in Tokyo and Kyoto, featuring Philadelphia's legendary MC Bahamadia.

Since her debut in 2006, COMA-CHI has garnered support from both domestic and international scenes with her unique style, fusing Japanese rap and soul, and has long been a driving force in Japanese HIPHOP culture.

Currently, as part of her 20th-anniversary year, she is developing various collaborations, including music releases and live performances.

A major highlight among these is Bahamadia's first visit to Japan, a special project supported by Hydrofunk Japan, with performances scheduled in two cities: Tokyo and Kyoto.

Bahamadia has been highly acclaimed since the 1990s for her work with artists such as The Roots, DJ Premier, and Guru (Gang Starr). She is a representative MC from Philadelphia, admired by HIPHOP fans worldwide for her intelligent and lyrical style. This visit to Japan is a long-awaited and precious opportunity for Japanese fans.

The performances will be a special stage celebrating the 30th anniversary of Bahamadia's classic album "Kollage" and COMA-CHI's 20th anniversary, as part of an event series honoring HIPHOP classics. It will be a unique night where the HIPHOP cultures of Japan and Philadelphia intersect.

DJ Eclipse is also scheduled to visit Japan as Bahamadia's backing DJ. Don't miss this historic collaborative live performance between an artist who has colored the history of global HIPHOP and COMA-CHI, who has built a 20-year career in the Japanese scene.

[Profile]

COMA-CHI (Singer/Rapper)

A pioneering figure who supported the early days of Japanese HIPHOP as a leading female MC.

She was the first female to achieve runner-up in the B-boy park MC battle and has been featured by numerous artists including m-flo and ZEEBRA, demonstrating her genre-transcending presence. She made her major debut in 2009, dominating streaming charts. She has also worked on many movie theme songs and TV commercial jingles.

After going independent, she established her own label "Queen’s Room." She participated in a Grammy-nominated work in collaboration with Sly & Robbie and attended the awards ceremony, developing an international music career.

In 2018, she released "JOMON GREEN," themed around the Jomon period. Her work "The Voices of Kamuy," inspired by Ainu culture, was used as an insert song in Marvel's anime "Hit-Monkey."

Her latest work, "OTO," presents the worldview of "Japanese Fusion," a new genre that blends traditional Japanese instruments with urban music like HIPHOP.

This work was featured on the official Grammy website and was selected as Japan's representative for the official Grammy playlist "GLOBAL SPIN."

Through "Japanese Fusion," she fuses Japanese spirituality with musical innovation, creating a new wave in the global music scene.
