Caption by Hyatt Namba Osaka (General Manager: Jon Justice, Location: Chuo-ku, Osaka City), a casual and community-focused hotel that pursues 'good things,' 'delicious things,' and 'interesting things' in the heart of Osaka, will offer a collaboration menu "Omurice denna. by Hokkyokusei × Caption" at its in-house cafe & bar "Talk Shop" starting June 2, 2026, for a limited period, to commemorate its 2nd anniversary. This collaboration is with Hokkyokusei, a long-established Western-style restaurant known as the originator of Omurice in Osaka. The "Omurice denna. by Hokkyokusei × Caption" is priced at 1,800 yen (tax included).
Omurice, born in Japan and now beloved by generations, originated in 1922 (Taisho 11) at "Panya no Shokudo" (present-day Hokkyokusei), a Western-style restaurant founded in Shiomibashi, Osaka. It is said to have started when the owner, concerned about a regular customer's health, offered a dish combining an omelet and rice. The conversation, "It's an omelet and rice, isn't it?" followed by "Well then, it's Omurice," is said to be the origin of its name.
For this menu, Caption by Hyatt Namba Osaka has incorporated its unique arrangement while utilizing Hokkyokusei's signature tomato sauce. It features rice infused with seafood dashi, topped with a soft, gentle-tasting egg prepared without seasoning, adhering to Hokkyokusei's style of maximizing the natural flavors of the ingredients. The dish is designed to allow guests to enjoy two distinct flavors: the hotel's original curry and Hokkyokusei's tomato sauce. With each bite, you can savor the nuanced differences in taste, weaving together the acidity of the tomato, the richness of the dashi, and the depth of the spices, making it a dish of discovery as you eat.
Furthermore, summer vegetables such as eggplant and okra are included, and homemade pickled cabbage is served instead of Hokkyokusei's familiar sweet and sour ginger, adding a light accent characteristic of Caption by Hyatt Namba Osaka. Hyatt is committed to animal welfare and uses cage-free eggs. At Caption by Hyatt Namba Osaka, they use "Fuku ga Kita" (Fortune Comes) free-range eggs, raised in an aviary system with consideration for animal welfare and SDGs, sourced from the foot of Mt. Fuji, one of Japan's most iconic locations. By combining this with Hokkyokusei's philosophy of "maximizing the natural taste of eggs," the appeal of the ingredients is brought out to its fullest.
Caption by Hyatt Namba Osaka aims to be a hotel where guests can upgrade their Namba experience, centered on "local," "connection," "sustainability," and "experience." The aspiration behind this collaboration is to connect Omurice and tomato sauce, born at Hokkyokusei and a cornerstone of Japanese food culture, to people worldwide. Both locals and travelers are invited to spend time at Talk Shop, enjoying a dish filled with 'good things,' 'delicious things,' and 'interesting things,' and elevating their Namba experience. The menu, "Omurice denna. by Hokkyokusei × Caption," is priced at 1,800 yen (tax included).
