Eye City eco project
The "Eye City eco project" is a recycling activity that collects used contact lens cases, which are recyclable, by setting up dedicated boxes not only at Eye City stores nationwide but also at approximately 8,800 locations nationwide, including municipalities, companies, and schools that have agreed to participate in the initiative. Started in 2010 as the first such activity in the industry, this year marks the 16th year of the project, aiming to connect to three social contributions (1. Environmental conservation through the recycling of empty cases, 2. Support for the independence and employment of people with disabilities, 3. Donation to the Japan Eye Bank Association).
Since the start of the activity, we have been conducting widespread collection activities with the support and cooperation of many organizations, municipalities, and customers. Collected cases, regardless of purchase store or manufacturer, are sold to a recycling manufacturer. The proceeds are donated to the Public Interest Incorporated Foundation Japan Eye Bank Association to help those who wish to regain their sight. However, approximately 4,000 tons are still disposed of as waste annually. Therefore, we will continue to work to expand the circle of social contribution activities by gaining the cooperation of more people.
